I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I used to live in california. I remember the friend of a friend was babysitting her ~9 year old grandson. He got out of line. The grandmother threatened to whip him. He informed her that if she laid a hand on him, he would call Child Protective Services and have her thrown in jail.

She promptly called her daughter and told her to come and get that brat, and never bring him back.

I'm sure they've worked it out by now, but still.
