The president said he chose not to attend the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in part because he didn’t want to distract from the competition, he said in an interview airing Thursday.

The only president to attend an Olympics on foreign soil was George Bush. It’s not like Obama is breaking some tradition by not going.

How often did presidents go to Olympic games outside the United States? I don't know the answer, so if anyone knows, let me know. I mean, who even thought that he would go. Anyway, a trip to the Winter Olympics would cut into his March Madness preparation.
