I had never heard of the guy but his face was familiar. Then I read that he portrayed Truman Capote and I remembered him.
He was pretty good in that movie.
I saw him on broadway once. An amazing talent.
We will never hear the end of this crap. Drugs killed the brilliant,Hollywood genius. Let’s call for more stringent drug laws. God forbid we should lose anyone else from Hollywood. After all actors have such an impact on everyday Americans who of course are of lesser intelligence.
This idiot killed himself pure and simple. Case closed. Nothing to learn here just the loss of one more drug addicted Hollywood type. One less voice trying to run all the rest of us commoners lives.
At least he died doing what he loved the most.....drugs.
I wish people would say this more often.
I’ve had horrendous demons and face them all minus drugs and booze; he had millions to play with and endless opportunities. He had no business skipping therapy or doing some genuinely fulfilling things with his time and resources.
His partner threw him out of the house because of his drug taking and that alone tells me he chose to potentially damage his kids because of his preference for drugs instead of their well being. He was a horrific example to his kids.
He loved drugs more than he did his life, opportunities, and his family.
Of course the cops mobilize and leave no stone unturned for the dealer(s) that sold to him. Think they would’ve done that for anybody else? Nope, he would’ve been just another junkie that shot up one too many.
More than his kids
More than his fabulous career
More than his partner
More than his friends
He deserves the same contempt people reserve for homeless junkies.
He gave her THREE KIDS and no ring..?
I don’t get it.
I think it’s a sign of Euro Sophistication, or something, if I don’t blink at this.
BREAK-DOWN IN MARRIAGE KILLS *ANY* CULTURE.
I have over 17 yrs sober and I can tell you, it’s a program of want, not need.
I actually feel sorry for homeless junkies not that I think they are people to admire.
Same for Hoffman.
What I liked most about the article is that it crystallized my thoughts on why this particular overdose/suicide struck me so thoroughly.
I’ve been on both sides of this drama. While I’ve never done any drugs stronger than caffeine, alcohol, and a couple of cigars, I describe myself at 12-step meetings as an addict. I’m two years older than Hoffman, and my siblings and I were 10, 8 and 5 when my father took his own life.
The psychiatrist accurately describes the reactions of the kids, and I also know the kinds of issues that tortured Hoffman. Someone, one of his friends, should have checked his ass back into rehab. Once you’re in the addiction, you can’t pull up out of the nose-dive on your own.
Amen. Hoffman was a drug head. He had no God— No loved ones. He made no imprint on anything. He was just a slug and he killed himself. Good the hell riddance.
No. He loved Phil most. Drugs were the expression of this self love.
Contributed (narrated a film or something) to
Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Not a member
of People Against Illegal Drugs.
Drug money finances illegal guns for
gangs and those in Afghanistan who
kill our soldiers. He was killed not by a
man with a gun but “shooting (up)”
himself. The ‘victim’ died by his own
actions.
There were all kinds of sob stories about how "we" killed him because we wanted him to be funny.
No sir. Even as a kid I knew that druggies want to be druggies.
The problem is that once a person who ALREADY used drugs makes the big time, all of a sudden they have much more $ to avail themselves of drugs.
Phil Hoffman even admitted as such.
He said: "Thank God I couldn't have afforded drugs when I was in my 20's. I'd be dead".
Sympathy for the family, but just another dead junkie worth about two lines in the obituary page.
This idiot killed himself pure and simple.
Poor soul with a big purse and a troubled life. People try; some win and some fail. Some think theyve won and fall anyhow. If you ever had addiction hit close to home, and I hope no one else does, you soon loose the scumbag attitude towards them. They have more than enough contempt of themselves to last whats left of their lives.
And let’s not forget he had the money to go away on a tropical island and get clean. Most have to sweat it out and hope they survive.
Blaming the dealer is like blaming someone else for someone’s suicide. The only person responsible for killing him or herself is the one that’s dead.
