An interesting and thoughtful post in the midst of a lot of fairly hilarious posts on this thread.

Traditional biblical interpretation held that the sun revolved around the earth. The church interpreted a challenge to this erroneous idea as a challenge to the authority of the Bible. It was not, of course. It was a challenge to one specific interpretation of the Bible — an interpretation, as it happened, in urgent need of review.

I think it comes down to those who trust the Holy Spirit, the author and interpreter of the Bible, to teach them are not threatened by true scientific discovery (not "science" with an agenda). Others seem more entangled in religious & denominational doctrine that they personally adhere to and feel threatened if it is challenged.

True non-agenda driven scientific results aren’t determined by whether or not they conform to non-testable mythology.
