Electronics seized from Georgia Tech student burned in apartment

ATLANTA —

Channel 2 Action News now knows police confiscated several electronics from the apartment of the Georgia Tech grad student who set himself on fire.

Saamer Akhshabi is at Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta. Investigators said he suffered third-degree burns on 90 percent of his body.

Early on, Channel 2 learned police found a Molotov cocktail and plastic bottles containing flammable liquids.

Police released the 911 call and a number of new details in an incident report on Thursday.

Channel 2’s Erica Byfield reported when firefighters pulled up to Akhshabi's apartment on 10th Street in Midtown Atlanta, he was still on fire.

The report also reveals investigators also took three laptops, three cellphones, two jump drives and homemade movies from Akhshabi's apartment.

Lastly, the report listed a witness - Byfield found out the witness is also a Tech grad student.

One of Akhshabi's neighbors called 911. The FBI is heading up the investigation.
