LOS ANGELESEight Los Angeles police officers violated department policy when they mistakenly riddled a pickup truck with bullets, injuring two women, during a manhunt last year for cop-turned-killer Christopher Dorner, a civilian oversight board announced Tuesday. Police Chief Charlie Beck and Alex Bustamante, inspector general for the Los Angeles Police Commission, independently recommended that the shooting be ruled out of policy, commission President Steve Soboroff said. He did not provide further details.
Beck will decide disciplinary measures for the officers, who were assigned to non-field duties during an LAPD investigation. Possible measures could include extensive retraining, suspensions or even firings.

As always, the taxpayers will pay for the settlement.
I think not being allowed to shoot at a couple of women delivering newspapers is a good “policy”.
“Eight Los Angeles police officers violated department policy when they mistakenly riddled a pickup truck with bullets...”
I mean, duh...
Perhaps these jack boots heard there was a dog in the car. Understandable. (Sarc implied)
I thought the whole point of SWAT is to go after dangerous armed suspects like this?
I guess the real point is to play soldier and feel tough.
Gee are they saying that the gun happy police are not able to tell the difference between two women delivering new papers and a man on the run
Sounds like someone wanted to be the hero who got the perp and fired before knowing what was going on. After the first shot the mob mentality took over without a second thought. It’s just luckily that no innocent victum was killed.
NO sh!t. Someone cue Captain Obvious.
Since Charlie Beck is in charge and responsible for the training of his men, he needs to be fired too, along with the 8 trigger happy goons.
More than likely the measure will be that they will only be promoted to captain instead of assistant chief. Now, if they had killed the ladies, the sky is the limit as far as promotions are concerned.
WOW, now that's series.....
Wow — it took that long to determine that shooting up a vehicle with innocent people in it was a violation of departmental policy.
They probably had to search pretty hard to find it and as well as somebody to deliver the news.
” I guess the real point is to play soldier
and feel tough.”
You join swat to play special operator, without the risks and profficiency requirements of joining the military and then qualifying for SEAL or Delta.
The taxpayers paid $4,000,000 to the 2 women.
Yep, the police will probably get the paid leave....
Well, I guess I’m kinda glad to see that shooting into vehicles with intention to kill, without as much as lighting them up and asking for ID isn’t “official” policy...
And these people want military weapons to police the city, what about rules of engagement? This is not going to end well.
“...when they mistakenly riddled a pickup truck with bullets...”
No, actually “...when they exercised wanton criminal negligence when riddling a pickup truck with bullets...”
This is why I believe that ANY PUBLIC SERVANT found liable in any way for the Violation of The Civil Rights of an individual, should immediately become a PROHIBITED PERSON with Respect to POSSESSING A FIREARM or AMMUNITION.
They already have been found “Liable” , that is what the SETTLEMENT Means.
Hmmm, if I violate any company policies out of negligence, sheer stupidity or willful disregard, they have said I would be personally responsible for any fines, levies, etc.
I have agreed to this position as a condition of employment.
Why should any PD be any different?
And prohibited from further ‘public service’.
