On Friday, every political campaign had to file its 2013 year end report with the FEC. The reports delivered two big surprises. The Democrats are dominating the Republicans in fundraising. More surprising, perhaps, though, is that Tea Party and conservative SuperPACs raised around three times as much as GOP establishment SuperPACs. The DC GOP may have started the war against the Tea Party, but it won't finish it.
Not long after their stunning losses in 2012, Karl Rove and other establishment Republicans announced a new effort to engage in primaries to ensure the "right" candidates got the party's nomination. Rove and the party leadership argued that the party lost because of "flawed", i.e. too conservative, candidates. There were indeed some flawed candidates in 2012, but far more establishment, "electable" candidates went down to uninspiring defeat.
The GOP attack on the Tea Party came about for two reasons. The first was to deflect from the massive defeat suffered by Rove and other GOP consultants. Rarely in the history of mankind have so many resources been squandered so spectacularly. Perhaps the more important reason, though, is that the Tea Party movement is becoming a serious thorn in the side of Washington insiders.
The movement has effectively ended earmarks. It threatens any corporatist giveaway. It calls out cronyism in both parties. It demands that Congress repeals ObamaCare, while business interests would rather "fix" the law to push the obligation for health benefits onto the government. More importantly, though, it wants rational immigration reform that doesn't simply flood the market with cheap labor as business would desire.

He lost because of "47%" and his signed WSJ editorial against the Detroit bailout. He lost in the purple states. All the deep red states voted for him by landslide margins. FL probably went for Obama because there are a lot of union worker retirees living there. I understand why he de-emphasized Benghazi. Nobody sees al Qaeda being anywhere near the threat that the Soviets were, and for good reason.
Look for “scorched earth” policies from the GOPe because they are liberals at heart with the same sense of orthodoxy.
“I think its time to give a few more $s to Tea Party Patriots”
Just logged in and made another $100 to them.
thx for reminder
This Article, and others like it, prove just how much Conservatives used to give to the RNC and GOPe PACs. When Conservatives stopped giving to the like of the RNC and Karl Rove, their finances started drying up. That proves that Liberals only spend other people’s money; not their own. Karl Rove, Mitch McConnell, John McCain et.al. did not realize that it was Conservatives who have carried the GOP financially all these years. Well, wake up and smell the coffee RINOs.
OK folks, is my assessment on this right or wrong? Anybody???
“That last line was my fave in the entire Article. They have had the grass-roots. Now, they have the money HELL YEAH!!!”
Mine too!!
bkmk
Frankly, the only way that I see any GOP Establishment RINO winning any primary race is IF real Conservatives allow that to happen.

NOT SO!!! I’m doing all I can to get John Cornyn defeated down here in Texas but he is actively running ads on radio and TV. Yesterday I got a mail-out from so-called, “Texas Conservative Republicans” with all my info printed out on an application to get a mail in ballot. They had a sample ballot and Cornyn was checked at the “most Conservative” and best candidate for the U.S. Senate. His opponents apparently don’t have the money to mount a decent challenge. Steve Stockman is “threatening” to file Impeachment proceedings against Obama. All we have are Stockman’s antics and no real fight agains Cornhole by the challengers, and the Primary is only a month away. So, if Cornhole wins, don’t say it’s because this “real” Conservative allowed it to happen..... THAT WILL NOT BE THE CASE AT ALL!!! It might be because his opponents did not have the money or the heart for the fight.
No! We can’t let the GOPe candidates win the primaries. We will turn out and vote OUR conservatives in! Let the GOPe see how they like it.
FL probably went for Obama because there are a lot of union worker retirees living there.

But then again, probably not. It’s because there are a ton of Hispanic and minority voters in FL and the GOP has not figured out how to tap into that huge voting block. We may never carry FL again.
Hey, buddy......take a deep breath. :-)
Do you remember the all out assault that the Establishment threw at TED CRUZ during the 2012 Primary race in support of David Dewhurst?
In the beginning of that season, TED CRUZ had a 6% name recognition (state wide), where Dewhurst was widely known across TEXAS because he was the sitting Lt. Governor.
Relax. Anybody who has been paying any attention at all KNOWS that Cornyn is running away from his first and second terms as Senator as hard as he can. His ads make that clearly obvious. He can’t run on his record as Senator or as Senate Minority Whip.
This Republican Primary for the Senate is going to boil down to a runoff, no question about it.
Cornyn is going down.
You are correct. The big donors give big chunks (apparently amounting to about $ six million, or 2%), and historically the other hundreds of millions have come from small donors for the Republican PACS and the RNC.
And get this: The small donors also correspond to 98% of Republican votes.
John Cornyn is no Ted Cruz!!
“To win we need to come together very early on one sound conservative Tea Party candidate! Only then will there be any chance of avoiding the 2008/2012 fiascos.
Romney laughed his ass off in 2012 while conservatives split their votes and allowed him to waltz to the nomination.”

Your so right, we need to have a CPAC type caucus to select one conservative. Before that though we need a few debates to compare the candidates. They should be held at Heritage, and conservative colleges like Hillsdale. We should have these debates moderated by Levin, Ingraham, Limbaugh, no more Crowley’s asking loaded questions.
Then the CPAC type caucus picks the one conservative to go up against the GOPe. Why split our money, our vote, at least 60% of the GOP is conservative, we dare not squander this advantage again. I am tired of Dole, Bush, McCain and Romney type candidate who won’t fight to win.
“The way Senator John Cornyn & Karl Rove are spending money in Texas, you know they are scared to death of The T.E.A. Party Conservatives!
John Cornyn is no Ted Cruz!!”
I really wish Ted would come out and support one of Cornyn’s oppoents.
That would guarantee a runoff and Cornyn would lose for sure.
Not endorsing Cornyn sends a definitive message.
Ted’s being respectful but is the unquestioned leader of Texas politicians in DC in spite of Cornyn being #2 in the Senate.
It does send a signal but am afraid Cornyn’s money is buying enough ads to convince people he is conservative might do it for him.
Actions alwasy speak louder than words. Ted doesn’t need any commercials to convince us of his credentials.
The endless Cornyn ads reeks of desperation.
“The endless Cornyn ads reeks of desperation.”
Cornyn is obviously scared to death right now as he is firing off non-stop ads attempting to convince us, in spite of his record over the past 11 years, he is a conservative. Our primary is a month away and he wants a majority so he does not have to submit to a runoff. Same scenario Ted Cruz did against the establishment GOP candidate who Ted easily beat in runoff.
At one time, when Kay Bailey Hutchison was the Senior Senator, Cornyn looked pretty conservative. However, now that we replaced Kay with rock-solid conservative Ted Cruz, we now know what a true conservative should act like. We know we were snookered, but have wised up.
Ted does not need commercials to prove his conservative credentials, his actions speak for louder.
And the discrace that is Cornyn would not even back up his fellow Texan during Ted’s attempt last year to destroy Obamacare, which is wrecking this country.
The best way to create a third party would be to have a large group of people win election as Rep candidates using Rep money and then “switch” after the swearing in to “TEA”.
