I don't agree with the timeline. I think Roe vs Wade was mostly related to feminism and the ERA in the 70's. I will concede that the attitude that women don't need men to be happy started then but I'm not sure that is exclusively gay, more maniphobia or man-hating.
The gay culture was mocked and ridiculed well into the mid-1990's. Billy Crystol made his name playing a cartoonish gay character on the TV sitcom Soap in the late 70's-80's. Even the first time ellen degenerate "came out" in the late 90's she lost her show and had to be pumped back into the mainstreem a few times before she was re-established.
I would link the "legitimization" of the gay culture as beginning more in the klintoon era.

I lived in NYC during the 70’s and 80’s so I saw what was behind the big media cameras. Every year there would be big homosexual parades that would go up and down 5th Avenue. They would publicly flaunt all manner of obscenity. But none of it ever made the news. There was a black out on it. They’re still there. They still obscene. You still almost never see pictures of them on the national news.
I’m glad they don’t show them. But hell.
Those parades started right after Roe V Wade in the 1970’s.
