My understanding is that Western Civ since the mid-1700s has been more or less historically unique in having a consistent intellectual/artistic "anti-culture." This anti-culture or counter-culture has widened and deepened its influence, with occasional setbacks, to where it is today dominates the popular culture.

If there are other examples in history of such a phenomenon, I'd be grateful if they were pointed out.

If this is true (and I have often speculated the same concept as you have here), then should not there be a logical throwback against it eventually? I have often wondered why the younger generation has not rebelled against this hedonism which imprisons them.

Conservatism and Christianity are both counter-cultures to the current culture. If we could somehow get the youth to get on board as the anti-culture, then it might turnaround. Youth is a time of rebellion. It just might work.
