WASHINGTON (AP) Days after House Republicans unveiled a roadmap for an overhaul of the nation's broken immigration system, one of its backers said legislation is unlikely to pass during this election year.
Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said distrust of President Barack Obama runs so deep in the Republican caucus that he's skeptical the GOP-led House would pass any immigration measure. He said a plan that puts security first could only pass if lawmakers believe the administration would enforce it an unlikely prospect given Republicans' deep opposition to Obama.
"This isn't a trust-but-verify, this is a verify-then-trust approach," Ryan said.

Talk is cheap.
Let us pray for genuine action to follow this brave statement.
“he’s skeptical the GOP-led House would pass any immigration measure.”
But not because he didn’t try like Heck.
The border will be secured. If they can’t do that and enforce the laws on the books now, they will have to answer to the voters.
We also need to make more noise about how the Obama administration currently is not enforcing immigration laws (not enforcing a lot of laws), coupled to his “pen and phone” dictatorial rule statements and threats of more unconstitutional executive orders to bypass Congress and the peoples’ representatives.
I need to borrow those glasses you’re wearing! Things look completely different, from over here in Realville.
Won’t pass as long as Obama is President.
The border will be secured. If they cant do that and enforce the laws on the books now, they will have to answer to the voters.
LOL!! I was one of the Original Minutemen on the Arizona/Mexico Border in 2005, WE brought national attention to our open border and were trying to prove to the Government that the border could be secured with a lawn chair and a Pair of Binoculars. We did the job back then, We have been doing our job as voters and Americans.
There IS NO WILL to do it. Here we are about 10 years later and the GOP has done NOTHING!
REMEMBER this stupid McCain LYING about border security to get elected>

He should be thrown out NOW. Your comment is LAUGHABLE that the border will be secured.
Bump
Basically Republicans, by saying the border needs to be secured first has taken illegal immigration off the table for 2014.
Good move.
Paul Ryan sees it unlikely that immigration reform will pass in 2014
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Ryan could be lying to throw the conservatives off track.
