I’ve been a “friend of Bill” for nearly 40 years, helping a younger brother with his addiction. My prayers are for all who are afflicted.
If you want to chat via email here feel free. This is a big part of my ministry as a deacon.
Deacon Francis
I will certainly take you up on your offer as soon as I get a break in the day.
All this is because you think you need special permission for a ping list?
If you are just forming a ping list for when a topic comes up, then I think you just form the list and no one cares or even notices, by now you should already have a list from the freepers on this thread who have asked to be pinged.
Ping list is what you meant when you created this thread?
“”I asked Jim if we could start an AA thread to help those of us who are suffering.
I have a problem with substance abuse and ask my brother Freepers if together we might form a union like AA.””
You should have clarified this days ago that you were only making a ping list. For instance, when reading post 205.
What the heck is wrong with you?
If this issue or the curiosity that some have over this matter is such a problem for you, why not just stay off the thread.
You have expressed your objection to the general thoughts some might have had I guess, but it's now Monday of the following week...can't you give your obsession a little rest.
While this might be just another Freeper p!ssing contest with you in which you can prove your finer skills of debate, it is a little more important and personal to some around here.
You definitely make me wish I had never opened my frikken mouth about it.
Thx pal, I will avoid you at all costs in the future.
You can lay off the nasty personal attacks.
Just respond to post 223, or ignore it, but don’t continue with the personal attacks.
If you just wanted to start a ping list, then do it, what did you mean by I asked Jim if we could start an AA thread to help those of us who are suffering.
I have a problem with substance abuse and ask my brother Freepers if together we might form a union like AA.
Did you mean a thread or a forum? What did you mean by a “union”?
Considering what the NSA is currently doing I'm not sure that anyone with these types of problems would be doing themselves any favors by posting it through their account and running the risk of tying it to themselves.
TRUSTING this administration is something only a fool would do. I'm NOT against the idea... only suggesting that you find a way, like AA, to do it anonymously.
I can see that forum occasionally, perhaps frequently, getting into areas that would not be good.
Some of those conversations would get deep, and deeper, and deeper and get into depths that we don’t even want to read.
Good luck
AA seems to help more than anything I’ve seen
I’ve had decades of experience around problem drinkers and late stage alcoholics
Its insidious......very hard to kick but folks do it all the time
Most just quit....for many that is their only choice
Some learn to control it..a few...not an option for any but early alcoholics and they back slide a lot
There is no easy fix....just all the self control and will you can muster
I guess I was what is known as a co dependent
I’m glad I never like booze effects....alcoholics do...in ways normal folks do not which I think is the DNA component
It is a profound behavioral issue......I hate to declare this and no offense to you but drunks quit drinking ONLY WHEN THEY THEMSELVES HAVE HAD ENOUGH OR IT IS STARTING TO KILL THEM
They can watch every one around them suffer as a consequence and boo hoo pity parties over how much they hurt the wife and kids
But still drink...
Lie in hotel rooms...piss and shit on themselves... miss their kids graduation..
Wedding....moms funeral.....and still drink
But let them have pancreatitis or liver failure
Lol...and they quit just like that....snap fingers.... booze over
Why....cause it affects them now..
Hence why I don’t buy all that disease bullshit
Predisposition yes....I do buy that
Folks who quit don’t blame booze
They blame themselves
Biggest advice dealing with this as one affected by it.....
Fear the ALMIGHTY PLANNED RELAPSE....your biggest enemy trust me....she will creep in and her seduction is without equal
God bless....pray....that is your biggest ally.
Your idea for here seems sound..
It’s not my place to psychoanalyze alcoholics but there are things that one hears in the rooms over and over. One is the matter of loneliness and feelings of never fitting in. Then there is shame and self loathing. Many have tried to deal with all this by traditional mental health treatment. If that were the solution, there would have been no need for AA.
However, there are those who, having failed all previous attempts at sobriety, do find that the group experience and the personal relationship building that AA offers to be the thing that clicks for them. Some amount of trust results and then one can begin to take certain steps.
As far a discussing recovery on this board (via ping lists) I am 100% in favor. Those who are zealous to protect anonymity can benefit just by reading. Those of us who need such service work to develop ourselves will benefit from sharing the message.
I believe you're right!
I refer to those areas as "things we DON'T need to know about."
My best friend.....from 1970 on
Alcoholic...as was his daddy...a founder of AA and Harbour House in Mississippi in the early 60s
Chip on his shoulders....overbearing and then some daddy and sweet overprotective southern belle mom.....she was very kind
He always drank most even as kids
We worked and played together all over the world 20 years
The drinking got worse and worse....passed out...pissing next to bed...bizarre sleep walking
All the way to bitter end in the 90s......then decided since couldn’t drink due to pancreas and liver
That Oxys were a better choice.....eventually prison after floating scripts
Out recently and I heard lives and works at Harbour House...
I stay in touch with his sister..
.. don’t send him money anymore after learning where it all went
Just sad....alcohol abuse in extended family too
I did notice the more advanced alcoholism...the more sloshed they get on less drink
