Namath is “just like that” in real life...not the drunk part, the overtly flirtatious part. It’s almost like it his trademark. I do know of some ladies who have encountered Joe and they enjoyed the attention...he’s harmless and seems to have lived an ok life.
Now to the concussion issue. My kids have all played sports and 3 have had concussions. The range of treatment has evolved over the years. With my oldest we were told (after being briefly knocked out after a soccer field collision, just to awaken during the night, go to the ER if throwing up or disoriented...no big deal). 15 yrs later our youngest (a HS soccer goalie) collided w/an opposing player and banged the back of his head against the post). He has “out” for seconds; taken to an ER, and went into an extensive concussion care program with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was tested cognitively, physically, nuerologically. He received therapy and was NOT cleared until he was tested and examined by an incredible team of professionals. Going thru this w/him, and being counseled by those in the program it is amazing what they have learned about brain injuries—from our Veterans, to auto accidents, falls, and sports injuries.
Our oldest ADMITTED that he never complained of the recurrent headaches/vision issues he had for a very long time after his “bad” hit. He feared NOT being allowed to play. Our youngest, after going thru the UPMC program was told to acknowledge symptoms and listen to his body.
And under the ACA such sports could potentially be banned in the interest of health. Or refuse to cover it or be fined. As could parents who raise children to see homosexual relations as unhealthy. .
