Looked through the PDF . . . Your book looks good! Thorough. I ordered one. Don’t disappoint me! ;)--------------------------->

Can you self-publicate - sounds dirty but I think you know what I mean!

Can you distribute it by yourself and cut out the middleman? If stores choose not to buy up on the books, start with self publication - maybe the publishers and book stores will get the message.

Hi All,

First of all, I've got to get those profits from that announcement to JimRob..so thanks to recent posters for getting me out of procrastination mode.

CodeToad> The book is not about "comparing" anything to FEMA. It's meant to suggest to "rank and file" citizens that they should not rely on FEMA to come rushing over the hill in time of disasster (as history has repeatedly demonstrated).

hummingbird> I've received only very positive reviews from those who have provided feedback, so I'm sure you'll be quite pleased. I wrote the book as if I was going to need it to survive myself (which may very well prove to be the case with the current news of the day).

Hetty_Fauxvert> Thanks for asking the question about publication...this is something I proceeded with very carefully (and the method varies from author-to-author). I decided to publish and promote the book myself so that I wasn't paying someone else for doing it, and I have been very pleased with the results. Right now I only sell the book from my nofema.com web site.

The book was developed using the same 'LaTeX' publishing software that is used to produce college textbooks. The result is that it "looks and reads" much more like a professionally-produced book than many books in the genre (the bibliography alone is 19 pages of small print!). I'm producing the book from CreateSpace.com (owned by Amazon), which I can't recommend enough for those who are self-publishing (however, lulu.com is worth considering if you want to publish electronically).

BTW, I decided to "self-publicate" because the mainstream publishers just wanted too much of the sales. I thought to myself that my oldest son, just graduated from college, could use the money more than the publishing company.

As I got into the process I started to believe that the traditional channels for selling books may really be antiquated.

If you ever plan to publish your own work then I would be happy to provide more details about getting things ramped up. (I've gotten pretty good at the marketing side of the equation too.)
