After many years in Minnesota, I moved to Des Moines. The ice is much worse and clearing the roads of snow and ice is lackadaisical at best in urban/suburban Des Moines. And of course, office-job commuters in their 4WD pickups and SUVs won’t slow down, so four wheels slide around instead of just two.
I've noticed this phenomenon. About half of SUV driver exhibit NO caution when driving in absolutely horrendous conditions.
It was with some satisfaction that I saw a driver and his SUV on the center median of the Adirondack Northway who had minutes before blasted past me at 70 while I and everyone else crept along at 35 during snowstorm that was rapidly changing over to ice.
