When did hatred of Israel and Jews become popular on college campuses and among the left, generally? IIRC, Ayers’s beloved Bernardine was Jewish.

I have no idea when it became popular.

It amazes me that Hussein Obama was able to get 69% of the Jewish vote in 2012.

Among the very far Left sympathy for the Palestinians goes back at least to the 1960’s. The Left views Israel as a strategic base for U.S. imperialism in the Middle East. Ideologically, the Left sees the Jews as an impediment to totalitarianism because of their resistance to assimilate. Jews have a long tradition of tribalism—based on pure survival—which on the one hand leads to distrust of state authority but on the other hand may make them amendable to collective models of society.
