Its hard to be humble, Muhammad Ali rationalized, when youre as great as I am.
In Sundays contest between No. 1s, the Super Bowls two most visible faces Bronco Peyton Manning and Seahawk Richard Sherman are case studies of Alis theory.
Manning is footballs undisputed heavyweight champion, whose aww-shucks humility belies and explains his unrivaled ownership of five NFL MVP awards. Quick to credit his teammates, even after a seven-touchdown performance, the 13-time Pro Bowler and comeback king leaves it to others to laud his game.
With his legacy on the line in his third Super Bowl, Manning is a sentimental favorite, even in Las Vegas, where bettors pushed Mannings Broncos from underdogs to favored team.
Theres also anti-Seahawk sentiment, fueled by Shermans nationally televised Ali-like rant. The breast-beating cornerbacks noise rivals Seattles 12th Man, and with an NFL-leading 20 interceptions since debuting in 2011, Shermans bite is as fierce as his bark.
Moments after his acrobatic, championship-clinching play in the Bully Bowl against San Francisco, Sherman trumpeted, Im the best corner in the game, calling vanquished receiver Michael Crabtree me-di-o-cre. His unsportsmanlike conduct sent Twitter aflutter, prompting even John McCain to declare for the Broncos because I dont like that loudmouth from Seattle.
Before accepting the oft-tweeted critique that Sherman is an overpaid, classless embarrassment to professional sports, Think Again.

Nice article. Now let’s have some pot roast on Sunday. Go Broncos!
Its hard to be humble, Muhammad Ali rationalized, when youre as great as I am.
Statement of a man who has never met God. It will crumble in ashes when he is face-to-face with the Almighty.....who is NOT “Allah”.
For the truly great, it's not that hard.
Nothing should surprise us when The Biggest Loudmouth was re-elected to a second term. Being an uncouth braggart is sold to us by the media as being laudable. But would you want to live next to such people?
Arlis— WE are so much in agreement in this reply—Amen ,Brother — I find the entire fixation with the Stupor Bowl a bit like the worship at the groves and the Sodomites and idol worship condemned in the Sacred Writ:—Understand I don’t mind watching a football game—But it is and will ever be a game— a freaking child’s game.
In 5 years,, who will remember Richard Sherman ?
i could be worng,, but i doubt it,,
Ah yes, Gaseous Cassius always has an unforgettably unpleasant quality about him.
Bulls-eye, bro. Bulls-eye.
Wouldn’t it be great if Manning threw ALL of his touchdown passes to the receiver Sherman is defending? I know that won’t happen - Sherman is good and Manning won’t chance it unless he’s sure it won’t be picked - but I can dream.
Actually, I think it is more likely that Sherman will not even be mentioned duirng the game - no interceptions, no tackles, no pass deflections, no forced fumbles, no fumble recoveries, and no sacks. If the Broncos win, his claim to be the greatest will be greatly diminished. If Seattle wins, he will still make the claim.
