Stay off the roads again today if you can, Thursday, people. While a lot of roads are in good shape, there's still a lot of ice out there. Nasty, smoothed over, black ice, as a result of yesterday's melting and then refreezing.
Be careful out there if you must go out.
RAYCIZM.
Why it gotta be BLACK ice, yo!

Total chaos: 1-3 inches of snow cripples metro Atlanta

DOT sign over the interstate this morning:
TRAVEL INTO ATLANTA NOT RECOMMENDED
EXTREME DELAYS AHEAD
There were more cars than I expected and too many of them were over confident. Police were directing traffic around three of them that spun out this morning at the south end of the connector.
Glad to see those salt spreaders we bought are being put to good use! Delighted to see the union personnel who are called on once every 3 years for a day are right on it!
Government gets 'er done EVERY time!
Black ice is nasty stuff.
A few time while walking I ended up staring at up the sky and hoping I didn’t break anything important.
I heard they let everyone go to work then made no attempt to treat the roads as they turned to skating ice surfaces.
Some were 14 hours in their cars on highway. OWCH!
And here’s a post I made in the GA forum that I’ll repeat here:
Another minor rant - there are a lot of people driving higher-end cars that have performance / Summer tires. Many people dont know the difference between Summer tires, all-season tires, and snow tires. Snow tires are hard to justify here in ATL, but if you have Summer tires, DO NOT DRIVE when the temperatures are low and there is any precipitation on the road. Summer tires have all the grip of a hockey puck on an ice rink in those conditions.
If you must have performance tires, you need a 2nd set of wheels/tires for Winter. My Summers are stacked in my garage, my Winter wheels are on my car with all-season tires.
I do think when Minneapolis gets the Super Bowl once the new Vikings Stadium (provisional name) opens, we won't have this type of disaster--the citizens of Minneapolis are used to and will prepare for such extremely bad winters, and will likely cluster all events near Vikings Stadium like they did at Indianapolis.

Was on Route 64 in Virginia going 65 when all of the sudden the car started fishtailing. No warning, no curve - nothing. Soon I was spinning around praying hard every second. The Lord must have had mercy on me because I spun off into some snow on the side of the road. Didn't even hit the guard rail.
This kind of ice is no fun folks no matter where you are from.
Folks like to ridicule folks here in the south, but this kind of ice is dangerous anywhere you live.
Here in Lake Park, GA, we had rain all day. Valdosta got snow flurries when we were in there for appointments yesterday, but when driving back home, it was just rain here. Not raining here now, but it looks like it could. Weather map says no rain today, just cloudy. It is still cold, though! It’s supposed to be as high as 81 on Tuesday! We’ll see!
Did all the kids get home from the various schools?
All roads in our area were clear and dry yesterday afternoon. Mr. GG2 and I ventured out to the PO and grocery store. Snow still on the yards but nothing on the roads.
