That would have been my guess.

There are still a bunch of Eagles spread around western states in mountainous communities (along with old Dodge Power Wagons).

The interesting thing to me about the Eagles was that they had a wide range of power-trains including many manual transmission offerings)

Back when the emissions regs were less stringent, I think they could mix and match drivetrains without as much need to do certification and durability tests to satisfy the fedgov.

The Eagle and the Jeep Cherokee of that era were really forerunners of today’s massive compact SUV wave.
