Will keep you updated as I hear more.

The South is completely unprepared to deal with icy roads, and the officials really dropped the ball. I imagine they will get appointments to the Obama administration for their incompetence.

I hate driving in icy conditions. Rather face snow than that stuff.

In the Chattanooga area, the weatherman did not predict this was coming, so schools, etc were not prepared

I have folks who live there and they barely made it home......by actually leaving their cars by the side of the road or parking lots.....in other words, they walked home

130 car accidents in a matter of hours

Like Atlanta, it’s always the ice

Our corporate home office is in Atlanta. They're out of the office today because of 1.5" of snow.

Some unfortunate employees camped out overnight inside their cars on I-285 while others were stranded in parking lots because they drove to work into a snowstorm with no fuel in their vehicle's gas tanks.

Everyone trapped was wearing office attire.

It's not the dearth of government salt/sand trucks that's the problem here, Laz.

Will all the private sector workers still get paid like those Fedgov employees?

BTW, it’s sunny and supposed to get to be 75 degrees today in S. California.

Our street and Lawrenceville highway are starting to thaw out in the sun. We are making a Fantasy Five and wine run later in the afternoon. :-)

The ground should be pretty warm, and be able to melt the ice shortly, even if the air temperature is not above freezing.

Can we all sat Direct TV did the right thing by removing The Weather Channel? Headquarters are in Atlanta. Total fail. Plus, they are owned by NBC.

I haven't read any comments on this thread, yet. I heard/saw on TV this morning how bad it was in Atlanta, and immediately thought of you, wondering if you were stuck on a highway. Glad you are okay.

The pictures you see of those highways is exactly the way it was here when Rita hurricane was coming here. I was safe at my Conroe house and a few blocks away, people were stranded on interstate 45. Going north on that one was the worst and people died on that road, going west was bad but didn't get report of death on that one.

This is why hurricanes make you think of your preps and it was hurricanes that started me prepping. I know right now you are glad of what you have stored and you will think of other things you need to store by going through this emergency. Make a list of what you need that you don't have, and try to get those items for a next emergency.

Man, I thought some DC-area drivers were bad in snow!

I took me 3 to 4 hours to get from Germantown, MD to Mt. Airy, MD, once in snow. The drive would normally take about 20 minutes or so.

Combined PING! and DANG!

Do they even sell snow tires in that part of the world?

Remember when Jimmah was elected it froze in Georgia.

I’d have planned ahead.

See, Wed Nest Day is ladies night.

I would rented me a shack up place near “The Umderground “ and I’d go ice fishing beginning around Happy Hour.

And yes, I’m just like that....

Giddy Yup!

People driving the roads said it took ‘less than an hour’ for the snow, that had just started to fall, to freeze to ice. With that many people leaving from the city it's no surprise they ran into problems that escalated. I got an e-mail photo from a family member showing a pile up on a secondary road into a housing development area...it was stunning how many cars had slid into each other ....so it wasn't just highways.
