Full title: Forget global warming, worry about the MAGNETOSPHERE: Earth's magnetic field is collapsing and it could affect the climate and wipe out power grids
Deep within the Earth, a fierce molten core is generating a magnetic field capable of defending our planet against devastating solar winds.
The protective field extends thousands of miles into space and its magnetism affects everything from global communication to animal migration and weather patterns.
But this magnetic field, so important to life on Earth, has weakened by 15 per cent over the last 200 years. And this, scientists claim, could be a sign that the Earths poles are about to flip.

“If the magnetosphere is collapsing there isnt squat we can do about it.”
I think we might be able to do something about it. One solution would be a ring of nuclear reactors at the equator pumping current through a super conductor. It would be mind boggling expensive, but doable.
The other would be to establish a lunar base with a nuclear reactor and a particle accelerator that would mine electrons from the moon and shoot them into outer space. The moon would then acquire a net positive charge and the circular motion would generate a weak magnetic field but over a vast volume of space.

I think it's about time we bring back the hollow earth theory.

Actually, this crisis may cost very little since pole taxes are not legal.

The sky has been falling somewhere, somehow for all those 87 years Then you have progressively seen the real problem: If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? (Psalms 11:3)
America needs to heed my tag line.

Back in 1969, SAGA Magazine had an article on this complete with an artist illustration of falling NY skyscrapers.
The story was, the magnetic field was weakening, would soon flip, and in the short time while the flip is taking place there will be no magnetic field, the outer mantle of the earth will become unstable from the inner mantle, the outer mantle will then slide around on its own, like the shell of a shaken uncooked egg. EARTHQUAKES! TIDAL WAVES! And when the magnetic field stabilizes, we may be in a different location, like Antarctica!
One thing is sure, WE ALL GONNA DIE! PANIC!

They are estimated to take between 1000 and 10,000 years.

I was gonna order one of those army-issue compasses this weekend for an upcoming navigation class. Should I wait for an updated model?
No, you should buy a portable GPS unit instead. If you carry lots of magnets in your pockets they'll affect the compass.......
