Are automatic license plate readers in Maryland alerting police when registered gun owners drive past them?
Recently we posted a story about John Filippidas, the concealed carry permit holder from Florida who was stopped on I-95 by a Maryland Transportation Authority cop. The cop detained Filippidas and his family for nearly two hours while searching the familys vehicle for the gun Filippidas legally owns. The gun was in a safe back in Florida. No ticket was issued.

Yeah, I’m sure most cops can rattle off ten things that any of us are doing at any time, which they can use as an excuse to detain us. We’ve got too many laws, and we’ve given the police a little too long a leash.
I wouldnt put it past the jackboot ruling class to do this, but it is pretty unlikely. Even here in CA where we have fireams registration, there is no direct link to vehicle license plates.”
I live in CA too and I would not bet on that fact. If it does prove to be true, the states that do it can kiss good bye anyone having CCW. People will simply “carry.”
Add Minnestoopid to that list as well.
Minnestoopid is “shall issue”, but has no reciprocity.
Maybe the cops just googled it.
Regards,
Maryland patrol police are tricky.
The cars are dark colored and roof lights flat to be sneaky and not be seen till they pull you over,
I use waze to flag them to other users.
I would think this lawsuit worthy...
Sadly, the Brown Shirts and their bosses can’t be held accountable and the bill will simply be passed on to the taxpayer...
We got into Virginia we stopped, loaded the mags, pulled the 1911 out of the bike, and loaded the piece and put it back in the waist holster. I have a Pa carry permit, but dont want to give the Md local yokels any reason to get excited. Its BS, but I dont want to lose the piece to an excited rookie with a heavy badge.
The link is through the DMV with the D/L number. With a license plate reader it wouldn't be much a stretch that when the License plate query comes back the D/L number comes back as well. If there is a CCW it would be linked to the D/L. In CA that would be somewhat rare due to the difficulty of getting a CCW.
In this case the LEO went fishing and query brought up the driver had a CCW and that started the fishing expedition.
In CA if a LEO finds a pistol that the owner legally owns he can read the S/N and description to his dispatch who goes offline then when the DMV database responds they can confirm the S/N and description. I have heard them do just that while monitoring traffic over a scanner.
Sounds like a good opportunity to invent a license plate cover that will prevent reading with a machine.
Counterproductive??? Not if you’re after easy revenue and bust stats. Plus, the cops run near zero chance of getting injured in those encounters...
In Tampa if a cop reads your plate it comes up if you have a CCW. If you do you will be stopped. If you are not carrying at the time your car will be almost disassembled as the police search for your weapon. If you are carrying your gun will be confiscated and perhaps you can get it back. Your car will also be searched. There is not warrant involved. Lawful possession of a firearm constitutes Probable Cause. Tampa is one Southern city that more resembles Chicago than anything Southern.
It is also regarded as safer than targeting the criminals and easier and it allows the police to say they are Doing Something.

Yes, it is obvious, We The People have put up with servants who seek their own narrow benefit and glory, which ends up being no benefit and no glory because we can’t cheat God. If we cheat God we cheat ourselves.
Well, my answer is what I believe is God’s answer, which is to believe the gospel like we mean it, then to share the miracle which results with everyone else in whatever way God makes possible.
...if your goal is to stop crime.
Blacks get extra self-determination over and above what everybody else gets?
Evidently some addle brained “progressive” communist pukes “think” so
How self determination can be authentically labeled by color is far FAR beyond me.
It reads like Amos N Andy-Bonix..to me! It puts me in mind of George Kingfish Stevens throwing a bunch of words together in an effort to SOUND important and effectual.
Even here in CA where we have fireams registration, there is no direct link to vehicle license plates.
I wouldn’t be too sure of that. Mrs. Peet found her driver’s license photo in her electronic health-care record. In some states, the DMV shares info with data with other govt. agencies.
I hate this state.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
