Apple AAPL +0.8% (AAPL) reported earnings after the market close. The Apple stock ended the regular session at $550.50. In the after-hours it has touched $501, down about 8%.
As I listened to the conference call, just like I have listened to every conference call since before the launch of iPhone, I could not help but conclude that the incredible multi-year iPhone run has ended. Here is why.
Apple only sold 51 million iPhones during the quarter. This compares to consensus of about 56 million iPhones. This is one of the biggest misses in recent memory.
There were two big surprises on the conference call. First, iPhone sales declined year over year in North America. Second, an admission by Apple that it was adversely affected by changes in upgrade policies by phone carriers.

This was a long time coming as Samsung and Android are coming of age and IMO making the iPhone an also ran.
Try changing the battery in your iphone.
Android is superior in that custom roms are available and it’s much more tweakable.
I have a Nexus 5 and it’s an outstanding phone. Android tablets ate coming along, too.
I confess, while I am not an Apple hayer, I never saw what the big deal was about.
I guess this means that Apple is finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally, finally going under.
This time for sure.
I love my Samsung Galaxy S4 and would not trade it for an iPhone if you paid me. Amazing device.
Maybe...
You have almost as many “finally”s there as there have been “last nail”s in Microsoft’s coffin.
Apple is in trouble as their business model is based upon the fact that people will pay 80%-100% premiums for phones and tablets. What happens when the competition is better?
They may have a lot of cash in the bank, but IMO they are going to be in trouble simply because of their pricing.
A $200 Android tablet can do just about anything a $700 ipad can do. What fool would pay $500 more for the same thing?
Hahahahahaha...
Or Hilary’s...no..wait...
Hmmmmm, should I buy a cell phone or heat my house? Smart phone or groceries?
Try adding a sim card.
Just buy a 3D printer, then OC your processor to about a THz. That'll heat your house while you print cell phones and groceries.
I am happy you are happy. I am happy with my IPhone 5. I am using it now. Whether it is IPhone, Samsung, Nokia, LG or whatever else is out there, these cell phones have many many features that I will never use. This IPhone does many more things that I could care less about, but I DO use it to post here on FR.

And I have a great little Samsung smiley that I paid $40 for. How will I ever survive only being able to talk and send an occasional text?
I just got the Samsung Note 3 after my S3 bit the dust on an evil but accidental drop.
They tried to give me a an iphone.
Easier than the iPad.
I fully understand why Obamafoam users hate Apple so much on this forum.
If Apple was smart, they would do away with their review process for apps and leave it to users to decide which apps are good and which aren't - the way Google does it.
