I have seen multiple examples of US military members blending in with facial hair in Afghanistan. The horror!

I have too, but I get the feeling it is more an allowance for the theater of operations. Many Afghani tribal leaders wouldn't take a grown man without a beard seriously or so I was told by a friend at work. He just got back from 16 months in Afghanistan.
