I can remember watch foot thick and more floes at the 72nd st Boat Basin in the early seventies. There was a clear center channel with thick floes packing up at the shore line. Noise was awesome at times. Grinding and cracking.

damn, i bet... kinda like bones breakingYeah, I remember in the seventies watching the enormous chucks of ice floating under the GWB. Haven’t seen it like that in a long time.
The great lakes are a trip when they ice up.
