Upscale? I guess it coulda happened but The Corps gave me a bus tour from Baltimore thru DC to Quantico in 1961 and I don’t remember anything but krap. The most recurring scene was an unpainted house, TV sitting in the doorway, and all the folks sitting in a car in the yard watching it——mile after mile. I suppose now they sit in the cars to talk on the Obnamaphone and count up the EBT cards? No shootings at the time——there wasn’t anything worth hitting.

But I did ask the Captain if we were going to attack it? I think he said something like “they’ve already surrendered.”

It is not Baltimore — it is an upscale suburban county, though Columbia itself is ‘integrated’.

News flash: things have changed a lot since 1961. A lot. The average house in DC now, the kind my family lived in back in the day on working class wages, is now over $700,00, and upscale properties are in the millions and multi-millions.

Kolumbia started in 1967. It is all planned.

What you did was ride down infamous Rte US 1. Which is still mostly trailer trash but just a few miles from Columbia.
