Don’t whether or not this can be classified as abortion but the mother is dead. Machines keep her body functioning but not for very long. The baby is severely deformed. If the machines are turned off the baby dies along with the body of the mother. If the baby survives to a point that it can be removed through a C section it has a good chance of not surviving. The woman is unable to make decisions, nor will she ever. Without machines the womans body would be dead. The family has made a decision based on all the facts. It doesn’t make them evil.

I think everyone involved needs to be covered in prayer.

Thank you for your reasoned response. This family, not just the husband but BOTH sets of parents and siblings, are united against this unwarranted intrusion during the most heart-wrenching times a family can face. Please spare them the vitriol being heaped upon them. I have only prayers for the family. May they find peace in the coming days.

I’ve never said they were evil. I’ll assume you’re replying to me as the OP rather than some who have posted strong opinions.

I do find it odd that from the gitgo the father wanted the plugs pulled, rather than waiting to see how/if the baby would develop and become viable. But I’ve thankfully never been in his shoes.

Based on no medical background, it seemed to me that had this happened when the mom was at 20+ weeks, chances of the baby’s development and viability would have been fair, maybe 50-50, but at 14 weeks, the baby had not received enough of what babies need to grow and develop. My niece lost 2 babies she’d carried to 26 weeks, who survived for only 1-2 days. So, that leads me to think that 14 weeks offers little hope.
