Go for it. A large group of conservatives willing to endorse 1 candidate can wield a lot of influence.

Can someone post a picture of a convention floor overflowing with cats? Then need to add picture of a self-appointed “herder” attempting to herd the cats.

I’ve thought this, too. Except I think a convention (or meeting of the minds of conservatives) would be more helpful very early in the primary process. It seems to me that the conservative candidates in the primaries compete against each other for the majority of the votes from the base, while the “moderate” always ends up being the last one standing. If we could come together earlier during the primaries and vote for the best, agreed upon conservative candidate they may come out ahead of the moderate for once.

Get more RINOs to run in the primary and weaken the "Establishment Republicans' " 'Golden Boy'.

It’s a good idea, but has a myriad of hurdles to cross, after which the mainstream media will try their best to ignore it.

I absolutely agree that we need a way for Tea Partiers to organize around one single candidate for the primaries.

The only problem I see is how do you restrict voting to actual Tea Partiers?

There’s not even an actual Tea Party political organization, so what’s to stop every Democrat and GOPe supporter from voting for Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton or whomever.

It would be like one big open Republican primary.

The only way I could see Tea Partiers voting for the same candidate would be if Ted Cruz threw his hat in the ring, or Sarah Palin.

Excellent thought. In the case of South Carolina there is a runoff primary between the top two if no candidate garners more than 50% in the primary. That effectively accomplishes what you propose.

However, for states that don’t hold runoffs, your idea has merit.

Almost every state has a Tea Party convention…..SC’s was just a few days ago, widely covered by Breitbart.

Would probably be more effective than a march. Well, make it a twofer.

Just as is done for the emerging Article V Convention of States, Tea Party organizations can reach out to each other to select Tea Party delegates to participate in a national convention. I think the processing of selecting Tea Party delegates would impede RINO infiltration, don’t you agree?

Would prefer it be held on a week-end so I don’t have to miss more work.

But this would be a national convention that ties all the state conventions together.

First thing I’d recommend is to stop using TP as an acronym.

I would propose that the national TP convention be done by live video tying everything together with state delegates attending convention centers or town halls in their own states (cut down on travel, time and expenses).

Excellent idea, but much much sooner than a month before the GOP convention.

It might be best to tie the date to a scheduled CPAC conference to maximize attendence

you are trying to heard cats…..the tea party is a leaderless (by design) movement……I mean, I’d support the idea I guess, but it almost flies in the face of the individualism of the tea party to over organize.

TPs come in many flavors. Some are very libertine. Some are very social oriented. Neither is really the zeitgeist that launched the movement, which was more anti big govt than pure libertine and certainly not social oriented...

Yes, details are important. But the result of the convention needs to carry forward an effect up to the time of the national GOP convention.
