A pro-immigration policy will ensure the nation's future prosperity, better national security and a more youthful labor force that will help pay for retirement and medical programs for decades to come, a star-studded group said here Thursday.
The Bipartisan Policy Center, helmed by an immigration task force featuring the unlikely pairing of Republican Condoleezza Rice and Democrat Henry Cisneros, released an analysis on demographics that painted immigration reform as a significant boost to the United States, both on the home front and internationally.
-snip-
Because the issue of immigration policy has become so politically contentious, the range of liberal and conservative participants on the immigration task force of the Bipartisan Policy Center is notable. Members include: Republican Haley Barbour, former governor of Mississippi; Democrat Ed Rendell, former governor of Pennsylvania; Democrat Henry Cisneros, former U.S. secretary of housing and urban Development; Republican Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. secretary of state; Republican Michael Chertoff, former U.S. secretary of homeland Security; Republican Al Cardenas, chairman of the American Conservative Union; and Democrat Eliseo Medina, chair of the SEIU Immigration and Latino Civic Engagement Initiative.

What a sorry bunch of fifth columnists bent on the destruction of the American worker and the middle class. T
I prefer to think of them as careerist prostitutes. Pay them and they will play. Whatever you want.
Both parties have totally abandoned the middle class. They all nauseate me.
which has higher standing: a star-studded task force or a blue ribbon committee? (snark)
I watched the vid. He says 12 million new voters from immigration reform.
That is certainly their goal as I been posting for months, but what does he say about an amnesty bill with no citizenship at all?
Still banging the same drum. Once legalized, they will be given a path to citizenship. Anyone who believes that you can legalize the 12 to 20 million lawbreakers and not have them become citizens is a fool. This legalization without citizenship is a GOPe scam to fool and deceive conservative Republicans. They think they can say it is not an amnesty because there is no path to citizenship. And what does legalization entitle the lawbreakers to do:
"Under such an amnesty, the formerly illegal immigrants would receive Employment Authorization Documents (EADs, or work cards), legitimate Social Security accounts, drivers licenses, expanded (though still limited) access to welfare, travel documents enabling them to leave and freely reenter the country, eligibility for affirmative-action preferences, and much more. The only thing they wouldnt have is a timetable to apply for citizenship, which means no prospect of eventually being able to vote."
"A non-citizenship amnesty will not, in the final analysis, prevent this. Thats because in the real world the amnesty beneficiaries will eventually get green cards, and every Republican lawmaker pushing the idea knows that. Permanent second-class citizenship is politically unsustainable in the United States, and thats not a bad thing. If such a measure were to pass, the Democrats would attack the Republicans relentlessly for imposing a Jim Crow immigration regime, and Republicans (led by todays amnesty-pushers) would quickly fold, possibly delivering green cards to the former illegals even sooner than planned by the Senate bill. Representative Luis Gutierrez has come out and said as much; after signaling that hed reluctantly accept a non-citizenship amnesty, he continued (emphasis added):
Right now we have to stop the deportations that are breaking up families. And if we do not get citizenship this year, we will be back next year and the year after that.
"Whats more, illegal immigration isnt the main recruitment tool for the Left. Most immigrants are legal immigrants and its immigration overall thats shifting politics to the left. The new immigration system created by the Senate bill would result in more than 32 million potential voters by 2036, lopsidedly Democrats, and overwhelmingly due to legal immigration flows, not the amnesty. (Michael Barones claim that the Hispanic vote is up for grabs is an uncharacteristic instance of wishful thinking.) Any effort to preserve the viability of traditionalist, small-government conservatism must start with reducing legal immigration, not supercharging it, as Chuck Schumers bill would do."
"a non-citizenship amnesty is no halfway solution. Its a gimmick dreamed up by Republican lawmakers who want to join with their Democratic colleagues in delivering the amnesty and immigration increases that corporate donors demand, while at the same time appearing responsive to the concerns of Republican (and independent and Reagan Democrat) voters.
"Its a political expedient than would be abandoned the moment President Obama signed the bill."
Then most or all Dems should all be dropping any demands for amnesty right now, if citizenship automatically follows anyway.
What if the GOP made changes to the law regarding citizenship as part of a deal? Changes that rule out 90% of them?
Considering that there are millions of immigrants here with green cards who never applied for citizenship that says who might be the fool.
A wife of a close relative was here legally for 25 years before she had an interest in getting it,.
Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here is amnesty. Legalization with or without a path to citizenship is amnesty. I gave you the following quote from Luis Gutierrez who is the Dem leader in the House on the issue:
Right now we have to stop the deportations that are breaking up families. And if we do not get citizenship this year, we will be back next year and the year after that
What if the GOP made changes to the law regarding citizenship as part of a deal? Changes that rule out 90% of them?
It matters not. Once you legalize them, citizenship will follow. We can't have second class citizenship. The Dems will make it a big political issue and the courts will weigh in as well.
Now come on, there are specific requirements for citizenship, they are way too weak for me but it is not automatic. Those are what needs to be fixed.
Yes we have 15 million green card holders in this country. Some do not choose the option of citizenship. Others are waiting the allotted time period before they can apply.
The Democrats have developed something called the New American initiative to assist green card holders in becoming citizens. The Governor of Maryland set up an office to do that and there is a bill in the General Assembly in VA to set up a similar office. The Dems will use it as a feeder/contact system to identify Dem voters. Immigrants vote more than two to one Dem. The more they can encourage and assist green card holders in becoming citizens, the more voters they will have.
No doubt Martin O Malley did that.
He also gave illegals drivers licenses.
LOL. Fixed by whom? Obama created a backdoor amnesty for the so-called Dreamers. He should be impeached for it. Obama is selectively enforcing our immigration laws now. Internal enforcement has become almost non-existent.
You would have to prevent spillover, where the last 1500 in the california 40K run to Nevada, etc.
I have heard that before someplace.
Maybe you will find a genie in bottle and get three wishes because that is the only way that's happening.
It demonstrates how corrupt the GOP leadership has become. The GOP is not acting like an opposition party in control of the House of Representatives, which holds the purse strings and is supposed to be a curb on Executive Branch excess. The GOP is a willing partner with the Dems on amnesty. We are now witnessing the Kabuki dance as the Reps concoct a phony scam to deny there is an amnesty and that there will be no path to citizenship. The Dems play their part by reluctantly accepting the amnesty and vowing to pursue citizenship later.
The reality is that both parties get what they want. The Dems get amnesty and the Reps get a doubling of the guest worker programs along with almost a tripling of legal immigration over the next decade, i.e., 33 million more legal permanent immigrants,
Hannity actually supported amnesty in 2011 because a minority RINO (Condi in this case) was in the room with him. People thought it was Murdoch or Rubio who flipped him.

According to Condi poor Mexicans are the same as the people who have founded certain tech companies.
I dont know if that sort of Visa exists yet.
I doubt Democrats will help the GOP create a new second class citizen visa like that. The circuit courts and different legislatures will make sure illegals get welfare and food stamps and advanced healthcare. You’d have to get all these Democrat legislatures to agree to stop giving them freebies.
Christie actually made some good points about illegals while he flip flopped last month. “How can they be second class citizens when they are not citizens?” Also talked about creating a magnet as if he were Tom Tancredo.
If these people are natural Republicans why does McCarthy, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan want to stop them from voting?
I was pointing out that its the citizenship process that needs fixing, it needs to be stricter.
That doesn't fix the birthright problem. That needs fixing too.
None of my ideas will be tried.
