If Perry were running again, Davis would have easier sailing. Still, I am unconvincded Abbott will be tough enough in the campaign ahead; same with Cassidy in LA.

Abbott is certainly capable of being tough on Abortion Barbie, but if too tough, he might risk creating some sympathy for her. He is running a great campaign and will easily win without attacking her.

Her gaff about Abbott “never walked in my shoes” and her campaign mocking his disability has given her the image of being crass and insensitive. Strongly attacking her might blunt that image.

The Democrats are running Abortion Barbie to energize the base in Texas knowing that she cannot win. I agree with others that the ultimate goal is is to run Julián Castro for governor or other state wide office in the future. Running Davis as a sacrificial candidate is only a step toward their ultimate goal.
