A lot of college majors are hobbies — Art History, Literature, theater, etc.

Regarding Art History and Literature, not if the course is taught at a high level, the instructor is competent and the student is able and dedicated.
Many of the courses (e.g. electrical engineering) had been vocational school type programs. Even in the '80s, when my college, the University of Chicago, had added Computer Science as a major, there was some controversy. Until that point, all CompSci courses were under MATH. If you couldn't hack higher math, and you were bent on taking a lot of compsci courses as part of a major, off to Control Data Institute or DeVry with you!
Philosophy, Language Arts, Literature and even Art, Rhetoric and Music and Rhetoric were the foundation of the original University system. It was NOT a jobs program. It was meant for the development of men and women, and for the development and maintenance of Christian civilization.

Yep. As someone who has been a college student as recently as last month, I can say most college majors are a complete and total waste of time. They're nothing more than a way for "Big Education" to fund ridiculously high salaries, and expensive perks.

A lot of college majors are hobbies Art History, Literature, theater, etc. I had a double major: Frisbee and Euchre. Minored in Beer. I can't put a value in dollars on those degrees, but I sure had fun getting them.

Well, my hobby is building blinky things that go “beep”. It’s just that if I spent 40k on a hobby I’d make sure first to be able to sell the blasted thing.

I took Leather Craft 101 one time for a quick credit. It was fun!
