The entire fiasco was a tragedy. The ex cop was wrong, the arrogant victim was wrong, the wife for exploiting the incident is wrong.
<><><><
Not very challenging to see where your sympathies really lay ...
we have (in your words):
* an ex-cop (objectively true)
* an arrogant victim (nothing objective about this, you have no idea what his personality was like or how the ex cop approached him initially)
* a wife exploiting the incident (this is not objective either, it has velvetdoug’s opinion of this woman written all over it)
Facts: The theater is located next to Interstate 75, and offers senior discounts and membership perks.
Do you really think hurling popcorn was the end?
Wittle Saint Trayvon was only armed with Skittles.
The dead man was ex-military. I’m sure he knew how to fight.
We’ve got saint trayvon syndrom here against a possibly roid raged cop (and possibly a ‘roid raged theater patron).
BOTH are to blame. BOTH.
Don't get so twisted up over this.
If a guy wants to take a chance with his life and the life of his wife against an unknown threat to prove he is right or more of a man, or for any other reason, that is his choice.
And now he is 'dead right' and his daughter is fatherless.
The shooter may be a coward or a lunatic, and the texter may have been totally right, more in the right, or less in the wrong.
That doesn't make it a smart move on his part to not be prudent and not exercise caution.
But none of that matters to him anymore.
If you've got a shred of evidence that the victime did anything other than toss some popcorn please enlightend us. Travon was armed with his fists and was pummeling a man to death when he got shot. I don't know what your reference to "skittles" has to do with anything. If you've got evidence that the victim was in a "roid rage" or threatend the shooter in any way please enlighten us. But until then you are just making up excuses to justify out and out murder.
Skittles are somehow more deadly than popcorn (your claim of the only weapon the dead guy had). Fists are fists. His wife was holding him back (from punching?). That’s how she got shot.
So in your worldview, the victim was totally victimized, committed no violations, and did nothing to escalate the situation?
There are dozens of cantina shootings every month yet I never see any FR threads defending the people who get into such altrercations.
This is only national news because it fits the gun grab meme.
Wrong -- she was shot in the front of the hand -- not the back. She put her hand up to shield her husband from the bullet.
But please don't let facts get in the way of your defense of the murderer.
Of course it’s speculation! This is an internet discussion forum not a courthouse. Who’d presume to post with the authority of a criminal jury on an internet forum? That’s a bit too pretentious for me -except for that cheesy online poll I posted up-thread.
Back to free ticket question, err, speculation:
So the deputy is going to travel 2 counties over to see the movie just cuz it’s on I-75? Not buying it. And Reeves’ deputy son was going to the show too. That’s 3 LEOs in the theater at one showing.
Betcha the theater gave free tickets to LEOs. Big civil suit coming if/when that’s disclosed.
You're talking gibberish. Nobody ever said Travon just threw some skittles at Zim. If that's all he had done I doubt very many people would have defended Zim. If you've got any evidence the victim here was pounding the shooter's head into the ground and saying "I'ma kill you" then please let us know. If you got one shred of evidence the victim did anything to put the shooter in imminent risk of death or serious bodily injury then please let us know.
He did nothing I've heard so far to justify deadly force, which is the only issue here. If you know different please enlighten us.
Why is she venting her hatred to GMA (real people dont watch ABC, CBS or NBC anyhow), take your voice to the trial and ask to express your opinion at the sentencing part of the trial.
<><><
She can do both of those things, harpu.
GMA was today and the trial is in the future.
If you think any such incidents are controversial then post a thread about them.

How Skittles became a symbol of Trayvon Martin’s innocence
This wasn’t about popcorn or texting a babysitter. It was about butthead meeting butthead. Butthead one, the texter, was upset about Butthead two going to report him to management. Heated words were exchanged. Butthead one threw his popcorn at butthead two. Butthead two shot Butthead one.
I’ve seen fights in my life. They don’t end at the popcorn stage. That is the starter’s flag “It’s ON!”
Where’s the controversy in this one? The gun?
Guns are prohibited from bars.
Well... we know who the man of the house is... dont we.

LOL.
Mashood (thinking quietly to herself): I just got my a$$ handed to me by a poster on FR because I said something dumb. What to do? What to do?
Mashood (letting her voice be heard): You’re a big poopy pants.
I’m still waiting for one shred of evidence that the shooter was in immenent risk of death or serious bodily injury. That’s the legal standard. Why are you avoiding this issue?
She has hands faster than a speeding bullet? Who knew?
Who knows?
For some reason people are of the opinion that when someone is texting before the movie starts in a mostly empty theater you are not justified in shooting them in front of their wife just because you are a retired cop with imamgoditus.
And then rather then the wife has the gall to actually call for the sufferer of iamgoditus to be charged and jailed rather then groveling at his feet and sucking his ____.
It is a major wonder how people seem to think this is a free country rather then a police state.
