Mayor de Blasio admits mistakes in snow removal on New York’s Upper East Side

Looks like Mayor de Blasio has snow on his face.

After defending the city against critics who claimed sanitation workers were slow to plow a ritzy Manhattan neighborhood after a record snowfall, de Blasio reversed himself Wednesday after visiting the area.

“I determined more could have been done to serve the Upper East Side,” a chastened de Blasio said in a statement. “I have instructed the commissioner of the Department of Sanitation to double-down on cleanup efforts.”

But just hours earlier, de Blasio dismissed as flaky reports that the high-priced ‘hood got shafted because it's awash in wealthy people like former Mayor Bloomberg who opposed the recently elected Democratic mayor.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------snip-------------------------------------------------------

NBC weatherman Al Roker ripped de Blasio for not being better prepared for the storm.

"They claimed it caught them off guard, that it came in early," Roker said on the "Today" show. "No, no, no, it didn't! They should have been watching us!"

Also, it was hard not to notice how snow-free the streets looked in Park Slope, Brooklyn, where de Blasio is from. . .

Is that how the idiots in NY base their votes? Snow and What's in it for me?
Yea, I know that answer and it's amazing how some small minded voters have become
in their new age of enlightenment. They voted the guy in too. Reap what you sow.

Not getting the streets plowed cost Bilandic his job as mayor of Chicago in the 70s. Not being able to handle something as basic as this is a great indicator of general incompetence .

They thought they were voting for the old fashioned nod, nod, wink, wink champaign socialist. They didn’t realize they were getting the FU communist.

This guy’s basically a black liberation scumbag. He thinks he is Black by association.

The east side of Manhattan is a major conduit to the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island. Without that side of the island being swept clean, you have chaos for hours and the whole workday gets thrown for a loop. So, no, it’s not really about snow, it’s about keeping the NYC economy moving and not grinding to a halt.

what did they expect when they elected a communist that call the city a plantation and vowed to confiscate wealth just for he sake of confiscating wealth.
Expect to see a reduction in street crimes enforcement and a 180 degree deviation from the successful “broken windows” policy to more of a “get whitey” policy.

I wouldn’t think a mayor of a large city would be terribly involved in street clearing after a storm. Wouldn’t that be the responsibility of his streets and sanitation department? Aren’t the procedures and plans already in place?

The only involvement I would suspect he had would be to issue instruction if he wanted an area NOT cleared.

Traditionally, NYC mayors are held responsible for these goof-ups. As far as my institutional memory, Mayor John Lindsay neglected to plow Queens and got clobbered for it. Bloomberg ordered that his east side area be cleared first which posed a problem for him. These guys always goof up. Always, always, always.

The people who work for him -- all of them -- also read the newspapers and listen to the news. They know and understand what the boss wants, and they want to please him. He didn't need to say a thing.

This latest NYC experiment is going to be very interesting to watch from the other side of the Hudson River, and is probably safest to watch from a bunker 1000 miles away.

Our Sanitation Department sometimes seems to have a mind of its own. Not trying to get Sleepyhead off the hook. Just saying.

Using road conditions to punish political opponents?

Naw, only fat Republicans do that.

For the last time, I hope: the upper east side is not some stronghold of Republicanism. Once many years ago, it was called the silk stocking district and had very liberal Republicans in office. That was long ago and far away. The upper east side went for DeBlasio. The entire city went for this schmoe.

I don’t know what happened with the east side. Probably just the usual sanitation screw up.

The only rational voters in NYC are in white, working class, home-owning Catholic and some Conservative Jewish enclaves, e.g. Staten Island, Bay Ridge, some parts of Queens, etc., and they are a distinct minority

The rest of the town are hard-core Limousine Liberals, Left-Wing Jews, Negroes, and 'Hispanics' of one sort or another who would crawl naked on their bellies over broken glass to vote for people like "DeBlasio" (not his real name) or Obama (one of several names).

Every once in a while, NYC living conditions become so intolerable that a hard-ass like Giuliani might get elected to clean up the crap. But the Nooyawkas can't stand good government for too long. The rude bastards will revert to dysfunctional ideologues every time.

Talking about the rich limousine liberals who live on the upper east side. That’s the old money. They thought they were getting the usual jerk who didn’t really affect their lives. They are now realizing they got someone who deeply hates them.
