To: Fred Nerks

The locals always remark that I speak Bahasa well, but I think that is because I use lots of Betawi and Jawa dialect, and never learned it ‘properly’. If I watch the TV news or films, I only understand about 25% of what’s going on. Unlike Malay, Bahasa Indonesia is more relaxed, with a lot of double entendre and slang thrown in.

My wife and kids, however, are very fluent in both Indonesian and English. What video do you have in mind?

You might be able to help with a project that has been shelved for some time because we were never able to locate anyone who understood the spoken word well enough to translate.
