I don’t recall Barbara Bush saying the same thing, or anything remotely similar, about Ronald Reagan. Of course, he only rescued the family from political oblivion (the Senior Bush couldn’t even win a Senate race in Red Texas and his only elective office prior to the VP had been as a congressman in a safe R district), and but for her husband and son running as Reagan redux, neither would never have been elected president (of course, governing to the pleasure of the Eastern Establishment negated this the second they respectively won election). I DO remember Barbara Bush directly and without class criticizing Nancy Reagan on the day her husband was inaugurated and I remember her husband trashing the Vietnam War veterans during his inauguration speech (some crap about a statute of limitations for the Vietnam War whereas Reagans’ FIRST act in office was on their behalf). I’ve never for one minute regretted having voted for Perot; but for the Dems having nominated Gore and Kerry, I’d have gladly voted for someone like Gen. Wesley Clark instead of Bush the Younger.
Reagan’s only (but monumental) mistake in selection Bush as VP. The Bushes gave us 8 years of Clinton and 8 years of Obama and a supreme court that has and will continue to change our nation for all time.
I dont recall Barbara Bush saying the same thing,
That would be yukky if she did. He was older than her by a lot. He would have been more of a Father figure than a son. So glad she refrained from calling Reagan her son.
