At the end of World War 2, the USSR took the northern half of what was once known as East Prussia; Poland took the southern half. The USSR used their half, known as Kaliningrad SSR, as a toxic waste dump. The Russians aren’t now interested in keeping it, and approached Poland, Lithuania and Germany about taking it off their hands.
They all declined. It makes New Jersey look like the Garden State. (Oh wait...never mind).
