Well, it used to be a big thing in the Southern white community. One reason we made a big thing about being polite was that people did take offense easily. Well, I’m a Southerner and fights usually started because someone pissed someone off, NOT because that someone showed “disrespect.” Hell, I didn’t even hear the term “dissing” until I was in my forties.
