It sounds, just as JP said, that his English is poor and he inadvertently used the wrong word. He meant to say that gays can sometimes get too extreme in the expression of their gay attributes around impressionable children. JP dropped in the noun "pervert" and used it as an adjective instead of an adjective like "extreme". By using a noun as an adjective, it is clear that he did not know the import of the word "pervert". It sounds like he picked it up as an anglicized word from Spanish slang. So JP should get a pass on "pervert" from the homosexual mafia.
The problem is that JP's comment, correctly understood, is a much greater offense to homosexuals than the use of a derogatory term. JP said that homosexuals cannot be trusted to stay in the closet around children. That is Putinesque, and JP did NOT apologize for that. His three actual apologies, are empty, pandering and refer only to the correct but trivial use of the word. As such, they leave him in no man's land, in favor with neither normal folks nor the homosexual mafia.
In terms of self preservation, he should just have said nothing, worked the charm, and pleaded language difficulty when grilled.
