I read the book back in the 1980s ,so my recall of it isn't perfect.
The book was an amazingly in depth account of survival tactics and Jungle warfare.
Hunting for and the preservation of food and ammunition in the tropical environment was a large section of the book.
Most of the major events during his stay on the island are covered.
eg. The deaths of two of his companions and the departure of the third ,when he became convinced the war had ended.
He did appear ,from what i remember, to have remorse at the wasted years but was proud to have done his duty for Japan.
He was a little worried at how he would be received by the authorities of the Philippines on account of the number of soldiers, civilians and policemen he shot whilst evading what he believed to be capture by an enemy power.
Well worth the read.
