I’d like to see the tobacco companies call the government’s
bluff.
If I were say, the President of R.J. Reynolds, I would go on
tv tomorrow and say, “we are very ashamed of producing a
product that is so deadly, so, we would like to announce
that thirty days from today’s date, we are going to stop the
production and sales of our products in the US.”
Politicians heads would be exploding all over Washington
and every state capital.
Do you think Congress would pass a law ordering them to
continue selling the products?
Mike
Try suggesting that the sale of tobacco be banned and you would be truly surprised at the heads that would explode, other that politicians. The anti-smoking/anti-smoker cartel members go into cardiac arrest at any such suggestion - they make just as much as the politicians and have no desire to lose any of their $$$$.
Additionally they would be the first ones screaming for a law forcing the continued sale of tobacco products. I was told just that on more than one occasion - by the same people pushing for increased taxes and bans on where the products can be used.
“Id like to see the tobacco companies call the governments
bluff...Do you think Congress would pass a law ordering them to continue selling the products?”
Nah. They would then just go into overdrive trying to find new ways to tax more things, create a V.A.T., increase the corporate tax rate, increase the capital gains tax, tax the private retirement fund accounts, slap a tax on each bottle of bottled water, etc. They haven’t reached the bottom of their list of ways to increase revenues yet..far from it.
