Inside Boehner's Election-Year Immigration Strategy
National Journal ^ | 1/14/14 | Fawn Johnson

Posted on 01/16/2014 11:07:32 AM PST by jimbo123

John Boehner is planning to unveil a set of Republican principles for immigration reform before President Obama's State of the Union address, aiming to show the GOP is not hostile to legislation that might win them Hispanic voters.

-snip

if leadership's principles receive some positive feedback, Goodlatte, Cantor, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., could advance legislation they have discussed for the last several months. As yet, there is no legislative language drafted, however. Cantor and Goodlatte have talked about a path to citizenship for undocumented "dreamers" who came to this country as kids. Even Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., is discussing some sort of "Dream Act." Issa is mulling broader legalization for other unauthorized immigrants. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., is trying to gather support for a legalization plan that would allow undocumented immigrants to get green cards through normal channels, such as children or spouses.

"That's at least five and maybe six or seven House Republicans getting ready to introduce legalization bills.

The stupid party is at it again. Another reason to stay home on election day, or at least vote very selectively for good local candidates only.

Might win hispanic voters ?

In my opinion, I don't give a rats ass about hispanic votes.

I DO care about votes AMERICANS cast.

So bonehead has a plan that might work ?

I've friggin' HAD it with politicians.

I would love to see some Americans gather in a pub and put together an idea.

Oh ?

They did ?

There's two people we Americans cannot face today ...Jesus and Washington.

They both gave their lives that WE might have life more abundantly ... and they did THEIR part.

Let's say I am an illegal gangbanger and am given the choice between:
  1. Blanket unconditional amnesty offered by Democrats.
  2. Figleaf amnesty offered by Republicans which require that I jump through a couple of hoops or, at least, promise I will.

Tough choice, eh?

Support FReeper Eric Gurr to oust John Boehner in OH-8

Also, press your Representative to NOT support Boehner for Speaker - or Ryan, either!

John Boehner, Goodlatte, Cantor, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla.

These jerks are both contemptible and pathetic.

And there are more: Paul Ryan has reportedly been pushing hard for amnesty behind the scenes.

“Another reason to stay home on election day.....”

Seriously??

It is the DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY of all of us to (1) be INFORMED, (2) be ENGAGED and (3) to VOTE.

Failure to do those 3 simple things is EXACTLY WHY we have the CRAP in in our government that we do, today.

I have NOT shirked my CIVIC DUTY to do these things ever since I reached the age to Vote nor shall I.

Ryan is the one who is plotting out the House conference strategy with the Senate Amnesty bill.

Here are some principles for any real “reform”:

1 The number accepted must be severely numerically limited to the number America wants. If you just let everyone who fits some criteria stay then that is no control of the border.

2 You must send a sizable percentage and number of those here back. Again, otherwise there is no control and there will be none in the future.

3 Those you allow to stay must fit very strict criteria which make them desirable to America. Such as means of support so we don’t have to pay for them, and in industries we need foreign workers in so they don’t take Americans’ jobs.

Without the above you are reforming nothing, you are just letting everyone stay and encouraging more to keep coming.

I doubt the republican “principles” include any of these because it is a pander rather than a policy that is good for America.

Democrats will win the House and Senate, possibly super majorities.

RE :”We can win in 2014 without resolving it. We can't win in 2016 without resolving it,” said Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas.”

That's the conventional wisdom, that Hispanics will turn out to vote in 2016 like they did in 2012.

I have also concluded that they want this off the table before the 2016 GOP POTUS primaries, which means before ~ Spring 2015.

Local elections have more meaning. I’m in a solid Dem congressional district. For Potus, voting for a McCain or a Christie is a waste of time. For the state legislators, much more important.

They don't care. The Republicans and the Democrats are the Uniparty. They could care less who wins what election. It's all one agenda.

Frankly, with Obama just bypassing legislative bodies, and no one stopping him, why does it even matter any more?

Tell me about it. I don’t see the GOP, except Ted Cruz, even trying to fight back.

Their “conventional wisdom” gave us Dole, McCain and Romney as Presidential candidates too.
