After she wrote a critical review of the new Mark Wahlberg film, Lone Survivor, Glenn Beck offered to fly LA Weekly reviewer Amy Nicholson to his studio in Dallas so that she could read her review to Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL on whom the movie is based.
I mean this sincerely -- I will fly you first class, Beck said. I will put you up at the Four Seasons You will dine on the finest possible food, and you will come in here and you will sit down and speak these words to Marcus Luttrell. If you have the bills to say what you just said to Marcus Luttrell and back it up, go for it.
In her review, Nicholson described Lone Survivor as a jingoistic snuff film that preaches brown people bad, American people good.

Ralphie? Is that you?
Sorry I couldn't help but notice the resembelence.
If only.....>:-)
I remember a review of "Black Hawk Down" where the reviewer was complaining because all the bad guys were black, while the Rangers were almost all white, he really seemed to think that it was rigged that way.
Beck promoted him as much as he could safely do.

“. He’s done more scholarship and research on the roots and history of the progressive movement than pretty much any other notable conservative.”
Oh please. Beck is not a scholar and does no research. If you want to see research and scholarship pick up Gabriel Kolko’s 1963 book “The Triumph of Conservatism”. Kolko is a scholar specializing in the Progressive Era and his book is written from original research at the National Archives, Library of Congress, U Va, Columbia, and so forth.
Beck is at best a popularizer of the politics of an era most people never study. The Progressive Era gets neglected because it largely concerns business and the beginning of government regulation. The wars that bookend it are more interesting for most readers.
But anyone familiar with William Jennings Bryan, Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and Woodrow Wilson will know a good deal about the Progressive Era. And considering the howlers I’ve heard come out of Beck regarding other eras you’d be wise to do your own reading.
The American Conservative wrote this of Kolko, who although of the Left has many views in harmony with the Right:
“For Gabriel Kolko, the enemy has always been what sociologist Max Weber called “political capitalism”that is, “the accumulation of private capital and fortunes via booty connected with politics.” In Kolko’s eyes, “America’s capacity and readiness to intervene virtually anywhere” pose a grave danger both to the U.S. and the world. Kolko has made it his mission to study the historical roots of how this propensity for intervention came to be. He was also one of the first historians to take on the regulatory state in a serious way. Kolko’s landmark work, The Triumph of Conservatism, is an attempt to link the Progressive Era policies of Theodore Roosevelt to the national-security state left behind in the wake of his cousin Franklin’s presidency.
Kolko’s indictment of what he calls “conservatism” is not aimed at the Southern Agrarianism of Richard Weaver or the Old Right individualism of Albert Jay Nock. In fact, Kolko’s thesisthat big government and big business consistently colluded to regulate small American artisans and farmers out of existencehas much in common with libertarian and traditionalist critiques of the corporatist state. The “national progressivism” that Kolko attacks was, in his own words, “the defense of business against the democratic ferment that was nascent in the states.” Coming of age in the ‘50s and ‘60s, Kolko saw firsthand the destruction of the “permanent things” as the result of the merging of Washington, D.C. and Wall Street. A sense of place and rootedness lingers just beneath the surface of his work.”
I never implied doing nothing...but when a looney- toon writes about Lone Survivor being racial and such...I think that is so stupid that it doesn’t deserve a response. Only totally stupid lefties will believe that hot air, and so what?
I experienced a bit of cognitive dissonance looking at him in the photo, my brain went into safety mode when it couldn’t figure out what my eyes were telling it I was seeing.
Look, dude the original: She has a BA in Film Studies started this kerfuffle.
I don’t doubt that some FReeper could say ‘My sister holds a Masters degree in Film Studies. She’s also a staunch conservative military wife.
She’s proud of her work, and is an avid historian.’
Hasn’t happened yet, but it could.
BTW Where I live our University (Montana State University) has one of the best film colleges in the world. Really, really great.
My aunt, now deceased, had a PhD in Library Science and spent her entire career at the MSU Library. It always amazed me how arrogant she and her ‘click’ were towards others in the library who did not have PhD’s. Repulsive. She also had a problem with vodka - small wonder.
I don’t give a crap about you, your sister or her degree. We’re having fun with the nasty woman who GB wanted to get onto his show. Get some thicker skin, man.
After all, your sister only has a Master’s degree...
I ate eggs...and ice cream. ha!! Never drank milk, still don't....but I do eat cheese. Love it!! Ha!!
I've now evolved some....I will buy and eat a nice steak now and again, ( maybe 4-6 times a year...)...and I eat a lot of venison...when available.
Some good substitutes for proteins out there...beans and rice...make a good one.
Take Care............
