I live out in the sticks myself and AT&T still uses copper wire where I live.
They haven't changed us to fiber optics yet, but the line is still good enough for their Uverse Internet service.
Their little sub-station *brick outhouse* is about a mile away from us.

We have comcast, but it’s not perfect, either. They changed the name, (I don’t know what they’re calling it now) I’m guessing because everyone hated them so much.
