That was 60 years ago.

All the other Winos were well cared for by my mother and me.

She had a way with birds, and they loved her. She could hold a bird on its back in the palm of her hand and give it a shower in the kitchen sink.

It would just lie there enjoying the cleaning, then get up and shake the water off. The Winos would repeat things like "pretty bird" "Wino" and a few other things.

However, there were so many wild birds in our back yard, that the Winos all imitated birdsongs, and the only way to quiet them was to put a towel over the cage.
