WASHINGTON A House Natural Resources Committee investigation has found that President Obamas Office of Management and Budget ordered that sequestration cuts be applied retroactively to funding for rural schools over the opposition of the Agriculture Department.
The committees report released today, A Less Secure Future for Rural Schools: An Investigation into the Obama Administrations Questionable Application of the Sequester to the Secure Rural Schools Program, detailed how last February the USDA had determined 2013 sequestration wouldnt apply to 2012 funds that had already been distributed in the program. The White House stepped in and overruled the USDA, though both agencies havent turned over numerous subpoenaed documents that could reveal more behind the decision.
The Secure Rural Schools program helps provide rural counties with funds for teachers, schools, police officers, emergency services and infrastructure necessary because the federal government had failed to uphold its century-old promise to actively manage our national forest to provide a stable revenue stream for rural counties containing national forest land, Chairman Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) said in reference to the timber industry link.
The program dates back to a 2000 bill, which was extended in July 2012 for that fiscal year. The $323 million in funds were doled out to 41 states by the USDA in January 2013. But two months later, after sequestration went into effect, the Obama administration announced it wanted $17.9 million back prompting bipartisan backlash from governors and congressional representatives of the affected states.
The Obama administration appeared intent on making this sequester as painful and visible as possible, and this was another example. Instead of working with Congress to make responsible cuts and reforms, the administration took the political opportunity to go after funds used to pay teachers and police salaries, Hastings said at a hearing on the report

...The Obama administration appeared intent on making this sequester as painful and visible as possible...
No? Really? Unless and until the idiots in the GOP grow a pair and get ahead of the idiot news cycle the Marxist in the White Hut will continue to F the American people.
That’s because this country is run by the media. Not by congress, not by the courts, and not by the presidency. Its run by the media. Our founding fathers never saw that coming. Never even contemplated a take over of the country through television.
And supported by the morons who listen to the media.
Never, in the history of this once great country, has there been a more vindictive, political dictator than this embarrassment that inhabits our WH. I hope his fall is hard and painful.
But, with executive orders Obama could (theoretically) prevent another president from occupying the White House. This is especially true if no one has the gonads to challenge his executive orders.
Even if he could borrow them, he wouldn’t know how to use them.
I don’t know what’s sillier.
That Washington is being used at all to send funds to schools, or that a Department of Agriculture is the organization in charge (mission creep anybody?)
Remove his? Sure. Then we get to make our own. Let’s play with that magic wand for a minute before we break it.
However, I did read some mainstream media article a moment ago that made it clear that Obama has yet to issue executive orders with the reckless abandon of GW Bush.
The shoe is never on the other foot. Republicans have higher standards than democrats. Therefore democrats can feel free to be as nasty as they want, republicans will never retaliate.
“..making this sequester as painful and visible as possible..”
sounds like Christie’s bridge debacle! - making things painful for the Mayor.
I suppose they are loose shoes.
Which is worse?
This?
Or some stupid bridge.
I mean its for the children.
That’s putting it mildly.
Obama has some deep rooted mental issues.
He would rather hurt a few “typical white people” than help ten thousand poor people.
What do you expect boehner to do? His #1 job now is pushing through legislation that allows his constituents to become voting citizens, even though they have stolen into the country.
Obamacrat Boehner is the best that Obama’s money can buy, yes indeed!
