It's starting to appear as if marijuana users have become the homosexual lobby of the chemically dependent. What do I mean? Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson could mention one sexual behavior (adultery) as disqualifying someone from the "kingdom of God," but mentioning that "other" sexual behavior? That's a boycottin', pardner! Likewise, there's no shortage of articles about the perils of smoking tobacco -- about how it causes lung cancer, emphysema and premature aging; about how it's a dirty, nasty habit -- all without indignant smokers crawling out of the woodwork to protest, between hacking coughs, that their passion is being unfairly demonized. But dare imply that inhaling copious amounts of marijuana smoke may not be one of Dr. Oz's top ten health recommendations, and, well, the potheads cometh.

While most agree that casual drinking -- one or two drinks -- is fine and may even offer health benefits, it's universally acknowledged that drunkenness is destructive, ugly and reckless. In accordance with the old PSA, "If you have to drink to be social, it's not social drinking," it's accepted that if you have to get inebriated to deal with life, you have a problem.

So I'll say that if you want to have one or two small puffs of a marijuana cigarette, fine. But you've crossed the line if you get high.
Deal?
This puts the lie to the alcohol/pot comparison. There are millions of casual drinkers who may have a beer or glass of wine with dinner but have no intention of getting tipsy. Except, however, for the few who use pot for legitimate medical purposes (and I'm dubious about the necessity of this, mind you), the goal of a marijuana smoker is ever and always to get high (drunk). The intention is always to alter his mental state.

Always wondered why police don’t have a forensic field test to document marijuana levels the way they can check for alcohol intoxication.
If you tax it, then you are making the U.S. government into the largest drug cartel in the world. And they will act accordingly.
I don't think the war on pot is worth what it's costing us in freedom.
The government ALREADY acts like a crack dealer strung out on it's own goods.

As the cowboys wiped out the pot headed indians, so shall the chinese military and islamists terrorists wipe out the weakened pot headed blue states.
Non survival of the pot heads, who are unfit to survive.
I know a guy who became a pothead. It seems like there is no place to sleazy, no dealer to degenerate, no neighborhood too dangerous for him to run to when he needs to get his marijuana fix.
It really has made him a lot dumber.
what about the war on meth, crack, heroin
How soon before libertarians are demanding we erase or lower the age of consent or decriminalize drug use for minors?
“People are voting to repeal laws that we never got to vote for in the first place and they find this troublesome.”

Leave all the other arguments aside, whether you are pro, or anti-prohibition. We should all be able to agree that laws the Federal government is enforcing need to actually be enacted lawfully, and fall within the lawful scope of the government. If they needed an amendment to prohibit alcohol, then they should have passed an amendment to prohibit other types of intoxicants as well.
-1 Obvious use of Straw man.
“Your freedom of expression ends at the tip of my noise”.
Because people claim pot has no possible negative tests.
Great idea! Let’s do the same for alcohol first and see if it works.
I know someone who was looking for pot and almost got caught in a raid but he was lucky it happened before he got out of his car. They did arrest a guy with a bunch of cocaine and heroin.
Stupid people going to stupid places to do stupid things
You are very naive to think it can’t get much, much worse.
Different drugs, different effects, more harm... those are worth banning. Still, pot use is more widespread than any of these, and its the marijuana busts that pay for the SWAT team equipment for your local Barney Fife squad.
I hope none of those guys come around and shoot my dog, or yours for that matter.
“As the cowboys wiped out the pot headed indians...”
I don’t think the indians were known for that. The stuff isn’t even native to this continent, we brought it over here with us.
Police powers are a State power, and should never have been federal.
You are naive to not understand just how bad it already is.

You argument might work if we weren't living in a welfare state. You claim it's not going to harm me. But as it stands now, the government will take my hard earned money to give to the pot users. And you know it will. Don't claim legalization is libertarian in our world. How is taking money from me to support pot users and their administration libertarian. It's not, it's socialist, or worse.
I think the physical symptoms are more consistent for alcohol, so it’s easier to make an objective judgment.
Dope n 1. a drug to screw up the mind, 2. one who uses the drug.
