Quick question: What was the most startling element of the dreary December jobs report?
If you said it was that everyone seemed to have forgotten the fact that it tends to snow around Christmas, thus skewing the data an idea supported by the White House youd be wrong.
The real shocker was the continued deterioration in labor participation by those who should be in the prime of their working lives young and middle-age males.
While the labor-force participation rate dipped to a 36-year low, the trend for middle-age males was even more worrisome.

The women’s movement and the war on men, the women won and in the process succeeded in promoting and electing democrats and a dictator, thus destroying the economy and the middle class.
They will blame it on men in the long run and will soon be looking for ways to hire men to do the grunt work at slave wages while retaining their own status and power.
The one thing they probably are not thinking about is that women, with their normal social and emotional habits will find that they are inclined to start tearing each other apart to maintain their positions of power. I know any number of women who have told me in no uncertain terms that they hate working for other women because the women in charge are closed minded, jealous of their position and will protect their territory viciously. They all want to be the sole source of power and decision making and once they have that power they protect it at all costs and seek more.
Now why is that?
Among my Native American ancestors, it was common knowledge that all the women in the village had their monthly periods at about the same time.
And, by some strange coincidence, all the men and boys in the village would take off for at least a week long hunting, fishing and camping trip at that time, leaving behind only the boys too small or the men too old to keep up.
I remember reading a year 2000 US Census statistic that the number of women in households full-time jumped 13% from 1990 to 2000. This seems to correspond with your data.
It’s possible we could infer from both that even more women are staying home to be full-time housewives/mothers.
It kind of makes me question the statistic of 100 million+ that have stopped looking for work in the US. What percentage of that number are women who have decided voluntarily to stay home full-time?
ROFLMAO! Surprise, surprise!
Heard this years ago: “The typical Native American loves his guns, his hunting, & his pickup truck. In this regard he is more redneck than redskin.”
Absolutely.
You want to fight? You’ve come to the right place. I’m a nice and affable guy at work, but I won’t lay down and get railroaded for nonsense.
I reserve all rights. Maybe I will see them in court.
Good observation. In fact the participation rate has declined almost commensurate with women leaving the workforce.
Certainly a lot by choice. A lot of it structural (women participation rate started increasing in the 60's and 70's. Those people are now near retirement age.) Certainly some not by choice (very weak economy)
BTW this data is from the Federal Reserve of St. Louis database.
Part of it is probably the retirement of women since the Baby Boomers started retiring in 2011 but I tend to think that younger women are staying home, too.
This could be a very good development!
Thanks for sharing that data.
I do too. If you are in Georgia, maybe you will help me out a little.
Seeee, they even had mad cow disease back THEN!
Don’t tell the women that! You are so in trouble, Sarge!
Laz..I admire you and your reputation greatly. I would even cook you dinner. But I belong to my wife and no matter how much you flatter me, that’s all yer gettin’.
