TRENTON, New Jersey (Reuters) - Documents related to the bridge closure scandal engulfing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie revealed on Friday that authorities were deeply divided about the shutdown, with one warning it was illegal and risking people's lives.

I think I see what you’re getting at...Christie needs to lose from the weight of his own bad ideas, not by being taken down by a minor scandal. I agree with that. Let’s make sure the policies get shot down, the man is not relevant.
There is also the school of though, “Any port in a storm.” Any set of circumstances that would remove Fat Man from the running is a good thing. It’s a compelling argument.
But that’s how we got the losers we’ve had in the past. McQueeg won by killing off the competitors. Romney did the same thing. It makes them losers in the long run because they can’t rally the troops after badmouthing half of them for months.
(I wouldn’t call it soul selling, but it’s close.)
re: I’m not going to jump on the band-wagon to impeach him just yet.
Neither am I. Nor am I naive about how all of this fits into the Democrat playbook where they routinely scream foul at real or imagined Republican scandals while circling the wagons around Democrat politicians who are guilty as sin, insisting that the issues are either bogus are irrelevant. In contrast, Republicans typically respond by distancing themselves from the “accused”, even if the politician is innocent. I am neither circling the wagons nor attempting to distance myself. I am simply saying that based on the limited information I have, things don’t look good for Christie as a Republican leader. If he were a Democrat there would hardly be a blip on the MSM radar and this would all be a non-issue, regardless of lives lost or people inconvenienced.
re: Vindictiveness - Wouldn’t you agree that this could probably be said about most people in and out of politics?
No, I would not. Nearly all people get ticked off while driving due to jerks on the road, but most do not respond with road rage, not caring about how many others they hurt or inconvenience in the process. That behavior is in the extreme and unacceptable category, a category which also exists in the political realm. There is a reason we talk about Chicago or New York or New Jersey politics. There is a reason we talk about Democrat machines. They are known for their ruthless approaches to politics as opposed to the less ruthless varieties. Now do I believe that ruthless and vindictive forms of politics are not found elsewhere? Absolutely not. But I simply do not see it as all the same and the normal and natural response to not getting what you want. Comparing Democrat politicians with Republicans gives an even more varied picture. If they were dogs instead of humans, I think most Democrat politicians would be pit-bulls or other typically aggressive dogs while the Republicans would probably be neutered poodles or chihuahuas, afraid of their own shadows and perpetually trying to be liked and approved of by the dogs across the aisle. Now do I believe that all Republicans are innocent and non-vindictive? No, of course not. But I do see the majority of Republicans holding themselves and being held to higher standards than the typical Democrat. You stated, “It may not be right, but I doubt Christie is any worse than the ten nearest Democrat Governors when it comes to vindictive nature.” I doubt that as well, but if Christie was complicit in the closures, (and that we do not know yet) I believe he was acting in a manner unfitting of his office.
Regarding your observation that the media are in full attack mode, craftily formulating stories & observations with the goal of causing people to think negatively about Christie, it may be true that what I have read in recent months was part of that spin.
The MSM knows how to distract conservatives into bashing their own to get the focus off Obama. Works every time.
Christie is not “one of our own” unless you could McCain, Boehner and McConnell as “one of our own.”
As far as I’m concerned, the more RINOs in the race the better. They can spend their time tearing each other apart.
In 2012 we had plenty of good conservatives in the race and Mittbots happily stirred dissent among them from the shadows. This time it looks like we only have a couple of good conservative potentials that most of us can find acceptable.
Miss Kelly must be well-acquainted with the casting couch.
I wouldn’t call Christie a crook or necessarily even a bully, even if he ordered the road closures personally. But I would call him everything we called Obastard for ordering Memorial closures designed to hurt non-politicians.
There’s payback for politicians that get in a Governor’s way, but I have no tolerance for people who punish the voters as a way to get payback on their elected representatives. It’s like getting a prisoner to confess by dragging in his daughter and pulling out her fingernails.
“re: Im not going to jump on the band-wagon to impeach him just yet.”
??????????
NEVER!!!!
With all his faults and excess avoirdupois, Christie is probably the BEST New Jersey will see for a while. And New Jersey is exactly where he should stay until the end of his term. I just don’t want him rolling around in a primary and getting nominated.
Ever check out Buono? Looks, acts and sounds like Pelosi. How about Sweeny, the guy who stabbed New Jersey gun-owners in the back and is owned lock, stock and barrel by the unions. How about Lesniak? When he dies they will be able to screw him into the ground. Codey? Please. THAT is what New Jersey is facing AFTER Christie.
If you live there NOW and are conservative, start making plans to relocate in the next four years.
I am not a fan of the Bush’s, but I believe he would be far worse if elected. I have never been a fan of him and never was sure why so many conservatives seemed to think/still think he is conservative.
If the RINOs would stick to tearing RINOs apart, I’d agree with you. But they don’t. They keep their powder dry, and reserve their worst bile for conservatives. That’s McQueeg’s SOP.
Beats me. But I don’t want him or another damn Bush.
re: With all his faults and excess avoirdupois, Christie is probably the BEST New Jersey will see for a while.
I don’t doubt you there. The alternatives only get worse.
You are right - dead on. They view us - correctly - as more dangerous than the Dems.
From their point of view, they are correct: We *are* more dangerous to them than the Regressives. We want to take away the power they covet. They don’t want smaller government, they just want to be the ones in charge of larger government. To do that they must first beat us, then the Rats.
When it comes to defeating them, we need to mind a lesson Romney taught us, even though it’s not the one he intended. HOW we defeat them matters as much as beating them. Romney got the nomination by tearing down his opponents, whose supporters then refused to vote for Romney in the General. If we beat them by dirty tricks, scandal mongering and badmouthing their supporters (who we’ll need later) we guarantee a loss in the General. Christie needs to be defeated, but this may not be the best way to do it.
We have to defeat the RINOs in a way that will permit their followers to vote for us. We can’t trash the people we need to work with later.
Good advice. I will try hard to follow it.
I understand the attractiveness of knocking the RINO out of here and now, too. We must resist the impulse and remember, if he can be run out of office because of the goofball antics of his employees, they can do it to anybody else, too. Somebody we like next time.
Now, the question remains: How can we convince Fat Boy to stay out of the ‘16 race? We’ll never win NJ, even if he’s on the ticket.
Don’t know. He has a monumental ego. Offer him the US AG position.
This scandal is about the political culture inside Christie’s office and reflects on his leadership as evidencing little more than the vindictive demeanor of a 3rd level mafia enforcer. There is also the issue of the mental landscape of a man who allows himself to become morbidly obese and all the psychology that the power of substitute gratification could wreak in a high pressure environment. Christie is a Jersey machine politician in a time when we need genuine inspiration not the banality of cliches, platitudes and pre-digested policy from a GOP headquarters that thought Romney was a good choice. Blandness is not an option. This is war, we need a general.
Whatever it takes to convince yourself.
Now if they only showed this same enthusiasm for getting to the truth when a Democrat is involved ......
Conservative grassroots fall prey to the tactic far too often I'm afraid.
