That would be a very sweet thing; however I mainly want to urge people to refocus on the heavenly. The fact that a prospective player for the advancement of His blessings had a checkered past is not a big burden to God. In fact, God specializes in hard cases... just to prove that yes, He is God! Look for someone who has recently done something where a positive motivation for God has made a difference. It does not need to be huge as the world sees it, e.g. Billy Graham with his gospel crusades. Newt Gingrich switched churches because he felt, wrongly or rightly, the Catholic church had a connection to God that was special. Michelle Bachmann and her husband do Christian ministry to homosexual sinners attempting to beat that lifestyle.
I’d even desire Barack Obama’s genuine salvation, if he would permit it. If that occurred, we would see a scene not unlike the denouement of The Grinch That Stole Christmas. I do not “kid” to use childlike metaphor. Would that more of us were children at heart, the kind who will readily go into the kingdom of heaven, not having built up huge worldly kingdoms of our own that can’t go through that proverbial needle’s eye.
HiTech,
I supported and voted for Newt in the primaries, and for the very reason you spoke about..... he may have his faults which I detested, but he is a dynamic person who I felt God could use for the nation’s benefit.
But the hard fact is that we will never get enough conservatives to think that way. Better we have a “Billy Graham” person..... unabashedly God-fearing, clean enough past that the libs can’t find a skeleton in the closet that irritates too many people, family person, dynamic personality that is likeable no matter what political persuasion you are (of course the hard core libs will hate him/her, but the regular Joes will have no reason to hate, and most importantly someone with real faith and the Holy Spirit for real guidance.
