Before I left America, it was obvious that cops were morphing into jack-booted thugs. They are no more “good old boys” on the beat.
There are still a few, but they're just a few & far between.
When I was a kid growing up in the 50s the cops were a different breed. I had Florida Highway Patrolmen give me a ride home at least twice. Once one picked up me and my brother and he patiently answered my big brother’s questions.
One of them was “how far can you chase a suspect, can you cross state lines?” He answered that he could chase him indefinitely as long as he could see the tail lights.
My Sunday School teacher was a Florida Highway Patrolman. I don’t think he would ever have shot someone before finding out what was going on. I could understand him being ready and having his gun in hand but not shoot until he knew what was happening.
Modern cops wear the same hairdo with both sides of their head nearly shaved with a sort of faux mohawk. They wear something like perfume and look like they just stepped out of a hair dressers.
