Ex-Republican runs as Dem for US Senate in Miss (this is how to win!!)

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Bill Marcy said Friday that he's changing party labels, but not his conservative beliefs, to run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate in Mississippi this year.

The Vicksburg resident courted tea party voters when he ran as a Republican for the U.S. House in 2010 and 2012. Both times, he lost to Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson.

Marcy, 67, said Friday that he filed qualifying papers for the Senate race Wednesday with the state Democratic Party. He's the first Democrat to enter the statewide race for a seat that has been held by Republican Thad Cochran for 35 years.

Cochran, 76, is seeking a seventh six-year term and faces a primary challenge from Chris McDaniel, 42, a state lawmaker with tea party backing.

Candidates' qualifying deadline is March 1, and party primaries are June 3.

In a phone interview with The Associated Press on Friday, Marcy described his candidacy as "Plan B," a way to give tea party members a voice in the Nov. 4 general election if McDaniel loses the Republican primary to Cochran.

Marcy, who is black, said he believes he'll be elected with support of black voters and tea party members — a coalition he concedes would be unusual in Mississippi politics. About 38 percent of Mississippi residents are black, and Marcy said many are socially conservative but don't like the Republican label.

I was registered as a Democrat for years. Never voted for one in a general election, voted for the weakest ones in the primaries, just so I could get some kind of voice in our supposedly “representative” government.

I’ve met a few people in Detroit who say they would vote for a republican but none ever run and the powers that be would never let one win.

I think things are changing in Detroit though. They just elected the first white mayor in 50 years, the GOP just opened a new office in the city and the police chief is pushing the 2nd amendment as a deterrent to crime. I also notice that Obama didn’t name Detroit as a “Promise zone”.

Either he will vote for Harry Reid (and is therefore no better than any other Democrat), or he won’t (and therefore isn’t a Democrat). Lying to con black voters may win an election if the state is filled with stupid people of both races, but it’s not a decent way to win.

By the way, this has been done before. Carolyn McCarthy of NY, for instance, swore she was a lifelong Republican, only running as a Democrat because it was the best way to defeat an incumbent Republican who she disliked on a single issue (guns) and claimed was a RINO on a host of other issues. Once in office, she has voted in lock-step with the most radical of left-wingers. It’s not the perfect example, because she admittedly ran as a liberal on one important issue, but it’s the one closest to where I’m from.

To clarify a previous post of mine: I’d be all for a conservative running as a Democrat in an area that had no hope of electing a Republican, but this scum-sucking bag of lying human filth is running for Senator of Mississippi. Whatever he promises, he plans on taking away your gun rights, cramming gay marriage down everyone’s throats, raising your taxes to put coal out of business and making sure your 12-year-old daughter can get all the sex advice and abortions she pleases. But he’ll vote to do so only when his vote is needed, so the ACU can give him a rating in the 70s.

If he’s nominated and beats Cochran, the media won’t know what to make of it.

“Liebermann caucused with the Rs.”

Yes, but wasn’t that after he changed to an “I”? This fellow is running as a “D.”

I’m not buying into this. Let him run as a democrat in the primary against Bennie Thompson. Mississippi has open primaries and enough republicans could cross over to beat Bennie. Since that district will go dem no matter who runs then he would win.
That would be the way to infiltrate the dem party.

“Marcy, who is black, said he believes he’ll be elected with support of black voters and tea party members “

But the media has told me the Tea Party is racist.

A quarter of a century after Reagan left office, and I don’t care for the Republican label either.

He’s running for US Senate this time, not against Bennie Thompson.

I grew up in North Michigan, when we had "conservative" democrats like Bart Stupak. When Pelosi needed Bart, he delivered. Every. Single. Time. Obamacare.

These days, "conservative" democrats mean those that won't take your guns away but will vote for committee chairs and speakers who will work to take your guns away.

I saw an interview with Stupak a few weeks back where he was asked if he had any regrets voting for ObamaCare after it was revealed that it would fund abortions. Stupak kept a straight face while telling the interviewer that he had no regrets at all.

There is a special place in hell reserved for politicians like Bart Stupak and Joe Donnelly.

It might be easier to reform some segments of the democrat party than the GOP. Especially when it is a black candidate.

And, if a few others switch to the Democrat label, maybe they can help Democrats win back the majority.

How many of the rest of the Democrats then would be conservative?

It is good to keep Cochran voting conservative until the election and there is a net gain of GOP Senators.

why not infiltrate the Dem party and splinter it all to hell?

That is what the CPUSA did. They took over the party. Maybe we could take it back. It would also eliminate a lot of the fraud that we can't fight against as GOP.
